If you get a puppy from a good litter, then it is more important what you do with him after you get him home rather than what you see at the breeders.

Put the head under the wing and swing in a circular motion. Lay the bird on the side that has the head under the wing. Cover with grass.

Re: Pigeon launching help
You need to do some checkcord work. When you know she smells the bird put some resistance to her , don't need much . The idea of the launcher is for her not to get that close. When she smells the bird and starts to walk up that is when you should release the bird.

Another consideration is that we also hold a dog show with the nationals. The show has certain requirements that are not always available with other grounds. Some have suggested having the show with the gun dog nationals , but no one has come up with a solution.

the competition is just much harder. There are dogs that place in puppy and derby but when they get to the adult stake they are competing with the dogs that were in the top of their derby stakes.

the fact that he is housebroken and has obedience training eliminates the only concern that I would have which is you see an older puppy that has been neglected with not enough socialization. Adjustment to your house should be no problem.

What sanction body, AKC or FDSB has nothing to do with range of the puppy. More to be considered is what breeds you are competing against.

While the rules may say a judge can use a dog that has already run as a bracemate for a bye dog. It usually is not done , especially under judgement. Most people feel you only get one bite at the apple. This is different than a second series or call back. A dog can only place once in a stake. I sure hope that you misinterpreted , or the judges were not clear. I am thinking maybe what they meant was your dog had some holes and if you had handled from horseback maybe he would have had a better application and looked better thus placing higher.

I have always considered this being "style" , something a breeder considers when selecting or a buyer when choosing from available litters.
I cannot think of a way to make a dog run with high head or tail, it is either there or not.
