Re: Northern Missouri Folk
Went to Northern Missouri north of Kirksville yesterday and hunted the afternoon. Moved 1 12 bird covey and a couple of pheasants. Dogs did excellent job with what few birds we found. Lots of walking but a nice day to be out and not working. Just not the birds there used to be. 20 years ago this sam...

My beeper does the Hawk Scream when the dog goes on point. Its on of the point settings on the tri tronics beeper. I can't tell if it makes a difference or not. I have had quail and pheasants hold and had some bust. Went out yesterday for my last wild bird hunt and had several quail hold to the hawk...

If you live close to Academy sporting goods look at the Yildiz line. You can get into a pretty inexpensive o/u or sxs. These have the screw in chokes and for a cheap gun have great wood. I have a couple and so far they shoot great. You could get one of each for less than a grand.

The other option is to ship it UPS and don't declare its contents. You aren't selling or transfering ownership. I have shipped several to my friend in Texas back and forth as he didn't want to check them to fly. No problems at all.

I got out Saturday morning and moved 3 covey's in 2 1/2 hours. Nice size covey's of 12 birds or so, we didn't work on them to much so will have another hunt before season ends. Dog pointed all three coveys then several singles before calling it a morning. This was south of Bowling Green.

Big country. 2 pairs of boots so you can change every other day. Lots of good open country. Great place to let your dogs find their range. Don't know if your dogs recall well but make sure you have your cell number on their collars or GPS.

You can get a book on the regulations from the state web site. Also available where you buy your license. Most places that sell the licenses will answer questions about the regulations. Get rid of the chickens. Any decent bird dog with a strong prey drive will not leave them alone. You can break a dog from them and then have a dog that won't like birds. Your choice.

Not all electric dog fences are created equal. A good pro system has programming to shock the dog even if it leaves the signal field. I have Franchi Highlander sxs that is very nice and points quick. 26 inch barrels screw in chokes. Cost between $1200 to $1700 depending on engraving. I just picked up a Yildiz 410 sxs thats also a great shotgun for the money. They have a 20 and 12 screw in chokes for $500 new.
