IMO you are doing great by running your dog without the harness. Throughout the years I had run my dogs on harnesses and without. I didn't see any difference in conditioning. I now run my dogs on logging trails at speed of 25mph on a 30 mile stretch. They eventually learned to pace themselves and do...

A few years a go, during bow deer hunting season, I saw one of my buddies attacked by a buck. As I hadn't come out of the woods, he came and looked for me because it was getting dark. Re: Beeper or no Beeper...That is the question?!
I run a bell and a beeper in point-only mode. The beeper doesn't seem to bother the birds, and I can turn it on & off remotely. The problem with using just a bell is the bell stops working when the dog goes on point. Most of the people I hunt with also use a bell & beeper, although a few just use a...

Gregg, I never have any problems with my dogs..They stay outside all day and night in their doghouse and kennel. In the winter I use marsh hay to help wih the warmth, and tarps on the sides of the kennels to help keep out the wind.

Re: Talking to handler while running in Trial Brace?
Most judges will advice you before, while, after, and any other time about running your dogs. A common sense judge would see that you are a new handler and to the game and would want you to continue enjoying all future experiences. Your bracemate shouldn't take that as offense either..If he/she does...

Most dogs shouldn't have problems adjusting..You just need to know that you have to upkeep his/her new trained habits. I had seen and know people send their dogs to a pro and then upon returning the dog goes right back to his/her old habits because they knows they can get away with things. Good luck.

Could heavily infested algea pond water possibly harm/kill your dog? I have a pup that drunk some algea fested water and now has bad diahrea and dark blood in stool. He also lost a lot of weight within a week. Took him to vet but doc said dog might not make it.
