Anyone hunt the area and have a population report?

We used to hunt around Olney (hwy 50). Used to hold good populations of quail...lost our contact there..but worth pursuing if you know someone around that area.

Whatever you do, don't place the pen under a tree......makes it too easy for hawks to pick them off when they return.

Happened to me...as the quail came back, the hawks just sat there and had a great meal.

And when you have to stand next to them while they eat (she's always checking to see I haven't left her).

It's really not that hard--

After your dog knows the command...say the command, then blow the whistle...."Here!" whistle.

My dog comes all the way back to me on one whistle....and on two whistles, she just comes back toward me (when she gets too far out)

Hunted with a guy who used a brace of Gordons...Don't see many around Indiana....some of the best dogs I've ever hunted behind...didn't range as far as English Setters.

December--(Christmas vacation) Iowa--Pheasant
January--Indiana Quail (ends Jan. 15 in Southern Indiana)

Hope to get to Ohio for some Pheasant and Southern Illinois for Quail (have to make time)

I have a female Brittany....she's around 35 pounds...not very big, but she hunts all day and is one heck of a pointer.

She's also a great house dog...great temperment.

The place we're moving, they're just finishing the landscaping..so I suppose the ground will be soft enough to lay a line. I do have a bunch of wire left over from my last effort.

Just a thought, if your dogs already understand the way it works...........try just flaging the new yard, work them into the flags just like when you trained them the first time. tick them with the e-collar if they need a refreasher on what the flags mean. I hated it and took mine back about 2 yrs ago. It covers a circle with about 180 ft diameter. By the time you put it on/in your home, the dog has hardly any room. Thats just my take on it... Going to be moving soon...have to leave my pet containment system at the old house. Thinking about getting a Wireless Pet Containment syster (Pet Safe makes them.) Got tired of all the digging putting my old wires in.
