If you are guessing then you don't really know how fast they are going, some dogs look as if they are burning it up others look as if they are barley moving, how fast they look tells you nothing. Jimbo, Just my observations, but the smart dogs when HUNTING, seem to pace themselves at a comfortable 7-10 mph. They HAVE to, to last for an extended hunt. A pro I know got a GSP that no one wanted 2 years ago. Last month (maybe this month also, I don't get GSP chronicle) that dog was ranked #1 open gun dog in the country. I've always heard that heel on the oposite side of the gun so it's out of the way of spent shells and noise is on the opposite side of the dog.
