I do a bit of everything to stay somewhat active/in shape......Last year rode my road bike 79 times for a total of 3010 miles...i usually start when the roads are free of ice and about 40 degrees or more and taper off once bird hunting season starts the 3rd week of sept..... I would "throw"Thunderhead into your pool to pick from as well.....Nice people and very nice dogs in my opinion....Excellent Family pet, great house manners, and prey drive in spades....at least in our Otto.....

Found 6 grouse in four hours up in Lincoln County,WI today....otto pointed 4 of them just had no open shots at the birds....
He also managed to point the crap out of a porcupine and got some quills for a reward....luckily he's a smart dog and didn't go back for a second round

Took Otto out early this morning and managed to bag two more phez for the freezer in 3 hours...Should have limited on woodcock as well but my shooting wasn't the best this morning....ottto had found/pointed 5 woodcock Pretty startling when a rooster goes up and you were expecting a woodcock was bein...

Have had the Franchi for 11 years....was my only shotgun for a while..... have taken woodcock, grouse, pheasant, and Spring turkeys with it...I do have a 12 g M2000 Stoeger now for when I'm feelin like a little more punch..... 7 grouse and 6 woodcock found today in 3-1/2 hours and WE GOT SCHOOLED!!! Otto is pretty ticked at me for missin (all 3 times) that one he put up in a leafless tree...He's passed out next to the lazy boy currently....I thought he was in shape, apparently he needs to be hunted some more

Was a little hot and GREEN here as well yesterday...Took Otto out and in an hour and a half he pointed 5 woodcock and one grouse...No shot at the grouse and gotta wait a week on the doodles but a good start to the season in warm conditions.....

I have a Quilomene vest so the water is takin care of.....I also don't leave home without some toilet paper in a ziplock bag (been saved by that a few times), a leash, a length of heavy duty twine ( for conibear traps), a pocket knife, a few powerbars or granola bars.... I was the same boat as you...Otto was just on 6 months old his first hunting season...he had pigeons and chukars for training and had been shot over before the season started.....if he did not point the grouse or woodcock I did not shoot...we got first first grouse on his first trip out.....birds ar...

For me it depends on the age of the dog.....And if you're using a pointing dog or flushing dog...I'll assume pointer....Young dog still learin the ropes I don't shoot.....1 to 2 hunting season in the dog and it misses the bird for whatever reason and the bird goes up..... I am ready as well to start poundin the woods and swamps! Otto needs a few more multiple hour runs to bring him up to descent condition but the timing should be pretty good.....I think because of the lack of precip in the areas I hunt we'll have an early leave drop...most maples are already red/yellow

I have heard that Weimaraners are not the best with other dogs I've own two Weimaraners in the very recent past one raised as an 8 week old pup and the other rescued as a 1-1/2 neutered male..... as a dog owner I had no issues with their behavior around other dogs they were both with us til age 12....

You should be fine....at most 1 to 1-1/2" on the ground North of me in Wausau....We had a dusting last evening.....gravel roads will be solid/froze....was just checkin the Season Hunting Dates myself for maybe "one more run"

#1 Look for a breeder that has a great reputation, is easy to talk to and easy to get along with. Look for dogs that are proven in the venue that you want to pursue Couldn't have said it better.....And proximity to said breeder or at least adding that to your thought process and decision making......
