My left eye is dominate and has always had much worse vision than my right eye, including astigmatism.
I've shot pretty well with my old pump, but the new SxS is a little tougher to adjust to.

I agree with Doug and Ray.
The ecollar isn't going to do you any good if the dog is tangled up in barbed wire or fallen of a ledge over the hill from you.
As mentioned before, a combination of the two is the ultimate setup.

I've never used an ecollar on my dog. But I did go to a Ben Garcia seminar a couple months ago and Ben used him do an intro to the ecollar. Jesse did very well with the collar. But I'm still not sure whether or not I want to use one. Mainly because I wanted to see how far I could take him without it...

I use a set of SportEar's on occasion. Similar to the Walker, but much higher quality. I use one in each ear, and they were custom molded for my ear canals. They are very comfortable, and work really well.

I just got in from the yard where I was using three of them to work on STF and steady stuff. They are pretty nice except that the range is still lacking. I've been using them with my pup on the checkcord with great results, but I don't feel confident enough yet to let him run on them without the CC....

Check out the Braque Du Bourbonnais (BDB). They are a pointing breed imported from France. For me, size was secondary to all of the other traits you mentioned. But I've seen some tiny female BDB's (~30 lbs.). My male is around 50 lbs. and he'll be on the upper range of the standard when fully grown....

I stick a gloved hand in their mouth, index finger first, thumb under the jaw and an arm around the dogs waist and hold it there until they relax.
