Re: Using scent
This was my point also. I didn't say the wings would do harm, only that they are a waste of time and money and BTW, they will not smell like a live game bird. Also, if you did want to find out if your dog will point, wings would do you no good. I doubt that there are many dogs that would scent poin...

Re: Using scent
The only time I use wings is when I am working on the retrieve. I will use wings or a pelt tied around a bumper, just so the dog gets the feel of feathers when he is retrieving. In my case, it has nothing to do with the scent. I believe feathers and scents are a waste of money for the purpose they ...

Thanks for the input. Its pretty hard for me to come by wings without hunting out of season which I won't do. Assuming I can find some pen raised, how long will the wing continue to carry scent? I was planning to use some scent on bumpers to practice around the home and park to get my labs to start working scent for flushing. I mostly hunt chuckar and some valley and gambles quail. Thanks to you both. I took the dogs out yesterday and introduced them to pigeons to get started. They already love to retrieve so I threw a couple clip wings for each dog. I have a 18 month old lab who I have not introduced to birds at all yet. Thanks all. Poncho, my male, had surgery yesterday so I left him at home and took Lola solo on the hot collar.
