I've used the Skid Plate before with my EP, but haven't in a couple of years. It did a pretty good job protecting her chest and most of her bellly area, but she was kind of in-between sizes at the time. Won't hurt to try one.

I have been feeding the young one twice a day and have been putting water in it to slow him down and get him more fluids...hasn't helped much. A good one is the Joan Bailey book, How to Help Gun Dogs Train Themselves. It's a start from puppyhood book that will get you headed in the right direction. Highly recommended!
The most best thing to do tho, is find a mentor to help you.

I've got a friend who's got a mainly white GSP and a completely liver GSP. Maybe it's just that the white hair shows more, but it seems that the white dog sheds alot less. I got the dogs each a coat that is designed like a horse blanket. It seems to keep them warm, and it's easy to put on and take off. And, it doesn't look foo-fooish .
