First Field Trial (Walking) with my MH dog, any tips????

I entered my first field trial with my dog in a couple of weeks, she is a 3.5 yr old MH and some friends of mine urged me to try some field trials first instead of going to NSTRA. Any tips for a first timer????????

anyone in il wanna get together?

i'm trying to get together with some other people for training, my dog is great on birds and retrieves great too, but i train and mostly hunt on my own so i need help with honoring/backing. I'm in the Joliet area but a little drive never scared me

I went the last two days and my 15mo gsp was awesome on sitting by my side and retrieving doves. in fact the first dove i shot went into some trees and she went to fetch it and locked up on point in the treeline near the bird, i had to insist that she go in and fetch it.

try chest waders and walk into deeper water yourself and the pup should follow, this will build up its confidence.

I work the dog on birds once a week at the hunt club, but we always finish with a "hunt" of everyone else in the groups liberated birds that they dont want. I also work her in agility once a week and swimming 1-3 times a week. maybe some time off wouldn't be bad i'm a little low on funds anyway. I c...

1. everytime my dog goes on point she turns her head back to look for me and doesnt hold a staunch point

2. she only honors/holds steady to wing/shot like 2/4times (it feels like when she wants to only lol)
