I've been using that ebirds site for years, good info although I wouldn't advertise to heavily using it to find birds to hunt. If you want to self-guide and are going to particular areas pick up some these guys maps https://www.northwnd.com. Not cheap but great to get your started.

Use Durmabond (or similar) adhesive, which is medical grade superglue, on outside of ear tissue. Works well for small nicks. Just including a link to all the states for reference. From looking at the Wisconsin number it's not perfect but pretty accurate (it includes some but not all of county owned land which is substantial in the northern 1/2 of the state).

I'd add the slight variation - it's the same stages as a puppy but you may need to go slower. Be especially careful when you get to gun intro, make sure the dog is completely jacked up about birds before starting, not just 'showing a little interest'.
