Re: What kind of dog should i get?
What about a deutsch langhaar from what i have been reading they are a good all around dog. just some thoughts from owners of this breed or people with experience would be sweet. For a first time dog trainer it might be best to stick with the more standard breeds and stay away from the more exotic ...

Re: Breeder Question
Please, do keep backpedaling. These excuses are very transparent. Instead of admitting you lied, you blame the breeder family who makes up less than 1% of DL-GNA membership, for buying into it and selling you a pup in the first place? And you blame your "website manager" for spelling errors? ...

Re: Breeder Question
You are throwing out a lot of accusations. Which seems to be common practice for you after a search of your history. I Don't know what story you've got but i am looking at a person who's pissed that I've got the same langharrs that you may have at a third of the asking price of the other breeders. ...

Re: Breeder Question
Independent or not, there are ethical breeders and unethical breeders. This thread began because a buyer was taken advantage of by an unethical breeder, which is unfortunate. Sometimes buyers who are breeders are unethical too. Lying to get a pup is unethical. Not x-raying both the breeding female a...

Re: Breeder Question
You and a few others on this thread assume that the breeder in question belongs to a breed club, regional club or parent breed club. He does not. I received a PM so I know who he is. This breeder is what some may refer to as "independent" like many breeders out there. For the most part, a reputable ...

Re: Anyone with experience with Sm Munsterlander or Ge Longhairs
No offense taken. Earlier I thought you had me confused with an LM owner, but I think that's cleared up. :D I gave Cortney a heads up since she was busy so she could add her dollars worth. The more people promoting the DL the better as far as I'm concerned. :D To date, I have only sold started and f...

Bruce's dog Oskar is a nice dog. Oskar is a 1/2 brother (same father) to Kaylee shown on Cora's post and website.
Enjoy your visit. I'm sure it will be well worth your time.

You might try Maple Run Kennels. This is a repeat breeding of JGHV / VPP German standard tested pups.

Re: Anyone with experience with Sm Munsterlander or Ge Longhairs
I am not offended at all. DLs are the fourth most tested versatile hunting dogs behind the DD, DK, and KM in that order. GMs, PPs, Vizlas, Weims .....(in no particular order) are tested in fewer numbers. The DL is similar to the DD in that although extremely versatile it originated as a forester's d...

Re: Anyone with experience with Sm Munsterlander or Ge Longhairs
Perhaps some time you will have an opportunity to see some DLs work. It seems that most of what draws you to the SM you would appreciate about the DL as well. They are quite different than LMs. I am familiar with LMs but have never owned one. If I were to venture down the black and white path I woul...

Re: Anyone with experience with Sm Munsterlander or Ge Longhairs
Why do you prefer the smaller size? There is still a perpetuating misconception that sharpness on game and aggressiveness are the same thing. They are not. This has been addressed in another thread. DLs are not Weims (and I have no opinion or substantial knowledge of them). Nor are they German Shepa...

Re: Anyone with experience with Sm Munsterlander or Ge Longhairs
A well bred versatile regardless of breed is not agressive any more than it is gun shy, gun sensitive or shy around people. Occasionally things crop up, whether it be hip dysplasia, or temperment issues or whatever. DLs are not agressive. This is perpetuated fallacy similar to those who say that DDs...

Re: Anyone with experience with Sm Munsterlander or Ge Longhairs
The GM in Germany (not the LM) were split from the DL over a hundred years ago and it took some time thereafter to establish the GM as a separate breed. So yes, they are now different breeds and both the GM and LM are bred to different standards. The GM gene poole is even smaller than the DL and the...

Re: Anyone with experience with Sm Munsterlander or Ge Longhairs
Matt – To expound and clarify on some of the statements provided. 1) There are German Longhairs and Deutsch Langhaars. Although DLs are sometimes referred to GLPs they are not bred to the same strict breeding standards. Also, in Germany you will find KM’s not SMs. The distinguishing characteristics ...

I would personally like to welcome Cora's Shadow back into Deutsch Langhaar Gruppe Nordamerika. Cora's Shadow was a member of DL-GNA while the group was active but not yet officially sanctioned by the DLV. Her membership with DL-GNA has been reinstated.

You might also try doing some research on http://www.dl-gna.org about Deutsch Langhaars = English translation German Longhair. I have owned longhairs since 2004 should you have any questions about the breed.

Re: german long haired pointers
Once again - sharpness on game is not the same thing as agression towards people or other dogs. Attempting to prove otherwise, only makes one look dumb. I think polling the a fair number of hunters, judges,(including NAVHDA judges) and dog owners whose precious scruffy has killed a cat will prove my...

Re: german long haired pointers
No offense to you or others who have posted similar, but what you describe is a classic description of the "mis-naming" or whatever you want to call it - using the word sharpness interchangably with agressive, etc. A dog that does not get along with other dogs or people is dog-agressive or man agres...

Re: german long haired pointers
I just returned from hunting in SD. Since I carried my gun and not a camera, I do not have loads of pictures to share. All three dogs did very well on pheasant, sharptail and hungarian partridge. A Hartenachweis test is not performed to "maintain" sharpness, but rather determine whether or not it is...

Re: german long haired pointers
The DL-GNA did feel as did the JGHV and DLV and many here in the states as well, that a split was detrimental to the breed in this country. Some still feel that way. DL-GNA is not bitter. And we fully understand the purpose of the GLPCNA. Now those that either don't want to follow the rules or want ...

Re: german long haired pointers
I agree, the "so many" are a reflection of percentage not numbers. There have been DLs and GLPs since the 1950s. When brought Breeze home in 2004, most commented that she was a really nice dog and/or the best they had seen. Most had seen only 1 other dog if any. Some were good, some ok, some not gre...

Re: german long haired pointers
That's funny because they're not, and my comments were not in direct response to to your post, but rather the simple fact that many have seen one DL or GLP if they have ever seen any. And even if they had, most do not even know if it was a DL or a GLP and there is a difference and I took the opportu...

There are Deutsch Langhaars (DLs) and GLPs similar to the Deutsch Drathhaars and German Wirehairs and Deutsch Kurzhaars and German shorthairs. Cora's founding kennel bitch is actually a DL (a dog bred in regulation with the parent club the Deutsch Langhaar Verband), Cora vom Illertal from Illertal K...
