I've seen a few grouse injury themselves while busting out of cover and hitting a sappling, branch, or tree. I've had fellow grouse hunters tell me that is somewhat common when the grouse are eating older grapes and cherries that have actually begun to ferment.....essentially creating drunk grouse

I think I would go with either a Rhodesian Ridgeback or a beagle. I think ridgebacks are handsome looking dogs, and I grew up with a lot of friends who hunted rabbits with beagles and also kept them as house dogs....fun little guys but tough to take outside....all they want to do is hunt.
