Grouse Dog on a CC?

95% of the birds around me are grouse and therefore 95% of the bird hunting I do is for grouse. When i get my pup i'll be looking for a good grouse dog and working it primarily on grouse. I've read a decent amount (and I'm going to keep reading a learning) about working dogs on wild birds. I really ...

Thanks again. I'm just trying to keep up with all the information on this board. The work with pigeons confused me a little because I didn't consider it any more a "game" bird than a black bird or dove. That's why I was wondering if it would work in place of a pigeon. I understand now though, thanks...

Question on Birds for Training

I've been reading as much as possible on this site, trying to pick up as much information as possible so that I'm as ready as I can be when i finally get a pup. I've read a ton about pigeons, quail, etc for training purposes. Will any birds work? If you are around an abundance of wild birds do you s...

I've seen a few grouse injury themselves while busting out of cover and hitting a sappling, branch, or tree. I've had fellow grouse hunters tell me that is somewhat common when the grouse are eating older grapes and cherries that have actually begun to ferment.....essentially creating drunk grouse

Matt I really appreciate the help! I'm so antsy to get one, but I know that I need to wait until next spring so i can do the dog justice. I'm figuring I will probably need to get on a waiting list at somepoint this summer. I will definitely get ahold of you sometime to get some advice. Thank you aga...

I think I would go with either a Rhodesian Ridgeback or a beagle. I think ridgebacks are handsome looking dogs, and I grew up with a lot of friends who hunted rabbits with beagles and also kept them as house dogs....fun little guys but tough to take outside....all they want to do is hunt.

Out of curiosity do you know which paper Mr. Yates worked for? There was a John Yates who worked for my hometown paper growing up that stirred up all kinds of controversy on various subjects. I am not passing judgment as whether or not these are real issues, they very well could be. I was just inter...

I'm 24 years old and live in Pa. I've grown up around dogs (golden, brittany, weim, and a chessie). I worked with the brittany a lot when I was real young but as I got older and busier with high school sports etc. i had less time to be outdoors. Now I'm 24 in my second year of teaching and coaching....

I'm assuming you have a Vizsla or Vizslas. Any breeders or bloodlines you think I should look into? Thanks

Thanks for the "Welcoming". Kiki thanks for the Vizsla breeder info. I teach phys. ed. at the elementary school, and coach at the high school. If anyone else has any breeders or bloodlines I should look into I would really appreciate it. Thanks again.

Hello. I have some knowledge and past experience with bird dogs, but I know I still have a TON to learn. Both of my grandfathers were avid hunters and hunted over English Pointers and Brittanys. In my early teens I had a Brittany that I trained and hunted over. She wasn't the worlds greatest hunter,...
