Re: Small moments (an essay)
Another Small moment that happened just this last fall really brings back the first feeling of freedom and in a way pride. I was fortunate (though at the time I didn’t think so) to have grown up on a farm full of game, with several creeks and ponds to explore. One summer I think I was 7 or 8 my fath...

Re: Off The Ground Pup Kennels
I built my own using the plans from a Scotts kennel that my buddy purchased. I bought the flooring from Loin Country and used fencing I had from another project for the rest. The one thing I did different was I added an additional door up by the house so I could reach in from either end of the run. ...

Small moments (an essay)
The economy is terrible, both my wifes and my place of employment announced lay-offs, all my vehicles are ready to give up the ghost and this winter caused the pipes to burst in my garage and yet today I was reminded of how lucky I am. I went out to sit on the deck to try and relax by smoking a Coro...

Re: pointing dogs and bow hunting rabbits
I used to do exactly what your looking to do. I used my GSP he always pointed rabbits and I wanted him too I love deep fried rabbit. He pointed them naturely as I would suspect most dog would at first, if you ignore it like alot of bird hunters do eventually the dog will to. I took rabbits with shot...

Re: PA hunting
The upland hunting in PA is quite good and there is plenty of state land to hunt on, I'm familer with the northern area of the state. good small game all the way around, no wild pheasents that I'm aware of but good grouse and woodcock. I have kin that run rabbits and say that they're back in force a...

Re: Can a average joe find a place to hunt Pheasants
Thank You for all the feedback KS certainly has possibilities. It would be a good two day drive through several other states such as Indiana and Illinois or Iowa is even closer. If I drove to KS would I be going through good bird country with wild birds?

Can a average joe find a place to hunt Pheasants
OK I’m bird hunter from the southern tier of New York I get to hunt (wild) Woodcock and Grouse on lots of state land. A couple years back I decided to try my pointer on pheasants (released) blah it wasn’t exactly the experience I was looking for its like fishing for stocked trout. In fact I sat and ...

Re: Hup question for springer trainers* Update*
Well it took me just a couple of session to get pup to actually sit with the hup command while quartering. He’s also hupping when he sees me throw a dummy, so I’m quite happy. Now we’re working on some house rules more for my son then for pup but, we’re getting there.

Re: Hup question for springer trainers
Thanks everyone I wasn’t sure how much response I was going to get for a Springer question. To be honest pup isn’t moving when I give him the hup command he’s just not sitting always, and he’s steady even when I throw the dummy close to him. I would argue with myself as to weather that was a big dea...

Re: Hup question for springer trainers
Yep he's field breed no local clubs. Last week I threw out a dummy while he was looking at me and said hup which he did and he was sitting, so I've been doing that with one of the retrives each night and he's to the point where when he sees me throw he'll hup (sit) so he can mark the dummy. If I do ...

Hup question for springer trainers
OK let me start off by saying that I’m not really training pup hard more of a play training however he is quick to learn, so I want to make sure my play training isn’t going to hurt something in the future. I have a 4 ½ month ESS, we’re working on hup and come and on our walks I’m working on his qua...

Puppy carrying items should I take them away?
Ok I’ve got a 11 week old ESS he loves to pick things up and carry them around. Quite often making sure he stays out of reach, he will come when called but it’s obvious that his first reaction is to not get to close to me. In our daily walks I’ll throw a puppy dummy once or twice and unless I call h...

Re: What should I be looking for in a food?
Corn is not a "filler", it is a source of nutrition in the food. If you check the list of puppy foods you will find nearly identical ratios of fat/protein in all of them. That is what is good. They did the research. If your breeder is feeding Diamond and his dogs are healthy and doing well, why do ...

Dog does well on it. Good protein and fat content. Not too much or too little - What is good? Good quality ingredients- I'm sure all food has corn as a filler in it but is there a percentage I should look for? Dog does well on it. Reasonablly priced. As said above you should check out Diamond. It i...
