Re: Loose Stool
Well I promised an update, so here it is. Hunter is doing much better. I consulted my vet again and put Hunter on a specialized diet of sensititve stomach Purina for a couple weeks. He is no longer having soft stool issues. I beleive that I was feeding him too much and it was causing the issue. My n...

Re: Loose Stool
I miss-communicated about him being "constipated". Pro-longed posturing I guess would be more accurate. He is still able to go sometimes it just takes him a bit due to the softness. I will cut him back a cup or 1.5 cups for a few days and see what happens. I will keep ya'll posted. Thanks for the ad...

My english pointer has had loose stool for quite some time now. (2 months) Not runny just very loose. He is somtimes constipated as well as a result. I feed him Diamond Chicken and Rice. He is not underweight according to the vet, 49lbs, but looks thin compared to other Pointers. As a result I feed ...

I did not say it was specifically related to dog food in fact I stated very clearly that it was a CAT FOOD recall. However, a recall like this, voluntary or not is going to be a sensitive subject given the events of 2006. I posted on this forum simply to give a heads up that Diamond Pet Food did iss...

I just read that Diamond Pet Foods is recalling some lines of thier Cat Food. I feed Diamond Dog food but am now considering a switch. I realize this is probably not related to the big recall of 2006 however when they promise 151 checks and then have another recall within 3 years of thier last debac...

How many do you need? Are you putting in a coop? I usually give about ten birds to guys that are building their own coop. BTW, I'm in Central Ore Don, I already have a coop built but don't have any birds. I had a few this summer that I had trapped but ended up using those as shooters. I have a pup ...

Not meaning this to sound negative or bad,, but have you have ever been wild bird hunting in your life? I have never seen a wild bird hit a dog in the face. Eddie, That's one cute pup. To answer your question about introducing your pup to birds you will get 50 different answers from 50 different people on how to do it, but I think one common factor in all the answers will be one thing, and that is to be in complete control of the situation. Just letting...

Re: Keep shooting or start over?
The Perfect Start DVD has a great method for introducing dogs to the gun. You will need a dead bird, check cord and a 22 blank pistol and a partner. You work your dog on a check cord about 100-125 yards from your partner who has the blank gun. When your dog is not paying attention to you, your partn...

I have learned from experience that the wing on a string routine is in my opinion a waste of time. Tried that whole bit with my pup when he was young. Your dog does have the pointing instinct and will begin to point just let him learn it on his own. Get him out for walks, let him meet people, let hi...

Ray,
Thats some good advice. I do have one concern though. Won't using a pinch collar when training on birds cause a negative association to birds or will they just relate the pinch to chasing? I am open to any one that has thoughts on this as well.
