Dogtra electronics with DT launchers

I currently have 5 DT systems launchers, over 10 years, that need the electronics replaced. I would prefer to update the launchers with Dogtra electronics instead of DT. DT uses a wire as the actuator, Dogtra has a seperate actuator box and rod. Does anyone know if Dogtra electronics is compatable w...

Montana upland hunt

Can anyone recommend a reasonable outfitter we can work through for land access only in the Northern part of Montana? We have hunted there before, have our own dogs and are using our normal outfitter for 3 days but would like to add 3 or 4 additional days without the cost.

Thank you

I am planning a return trip to Montana next September to chase upland birds. Can anyone recommend reasonable outfitters where can we pay for land access only as we have dogs and have hunted the state numerous times with full outfitters.

Re: Dog training collar buying advice

The 2 most important aspects for me are being able to control the exact intensity level and the range. I the e collar most of the time to cue the dog to give me the response I am looking for, or to remind them I have asked them to do something. I use Tri Tronics products as they give me the accuracy...

Male of Female most important in breeding program

I have always been and it seems most breeders are of the mind set to take the best female you have and breed to the most exceptional male that matches the traits you are looking for. Another trainer I know feels the males are simply sperm donors in that the traits of the litter will take more after ...

Re: Young Brittany NO Point

I have been raising Brittany's and training all breeds for a lot of years. Your pup's prey drive is coming out and their natural instinct is to try and catch the bird rather than sneak up on. Their pointing a bird is their intention to sneak up and try to catch it . My advise is to take the pup off ...

Re: Pigeon trapping

I have found pigeon traps are a waste of time. I normally find a farmer with a pigeon problem or look for areas with a lot of them. Take a long handled fishing net and a good flashlight. You can shine the light on them while they are roosting at night and pick them up like apples.

Re: Bird Eating!

I have had success with hard mouthed dogs by taking a frozen bird, pigeon or whatever is available. Take their favorite retrieving toy and play fetch. Every few times throw the frozen bird instead and let them retrieve it. They will learn to not bite down too hard on birds. If that does not work a l...

Re: New to Bird Hunting

There are few things I suggest to new hunting dog owners: Do not overdo the Sit command. Too often a new owner teaches the dog to sit first and over uses the command every chance they get. When the dog is older and in training if there is any pressure put on them they will tend to sit down as that i...

Breeding Brittanys

I have breeding and training Brittany s for a number of years and wanted some help on a comment I was told today. Another Brittany breeder told me to not breed a Liver/White male to a Liver/White female as the genetics are not correct. Has anyone ever heard this and is it something I should avoid do...

training progression question

The biggest problem I see with dogs put through obedience before birds is the owners overdo the sit command. That becomes the dogs natural response whenever they are confused and any pressure is put on them. I end up having to untrain the dog to stand up tall and not sit when being worked on holding...
