Also I'd look into a canine rehab program as they have exercises to help the dogs balance and properly use each of their muscle groups more evenly. It's pricey but might b...

I feed Dr. Tim's. Really like it, but I do wish it was cheaper. I searched long and hard for a food that could keep weight on a hard keeper I had, and Momentum did the trick. Pursuit is for my "normal" dogs that hold weight well but still hunt/train regularly. In heavy hunting I will put most of the...

Thaw the bird And really don't overdo the use of frozen then thawed quail. Quail are small and don't hold up well to lots of abuse and a mangled soggy bird is likely to bring habits you don't want. A couple fresh kills or better yet a pigeon, and just enough to get them comfortable with the clean fr...

This is true as well. I bought privacy screening for the chicken fence and hot wired outside that. fairly tightly related half siblings on this close one. The breeder felt it was too tight and since he has had these lines and line bred them for 25 years or so, I am trusting him.
I see breedings that tight in GSPs but only from people who really know their lines!

Good post. I'd change one thing though. Don't stop the dog until the bird is well on the way and the flush itself is complete. You stop the dog before the bird is flushed and you will teach it to blink. If the dog catch's the bird on the ground, so be it. Good boy and go on, don't plant the birds t...

The basic gist is: Teach whistle sit or HUP in the yard until reliable. plant the birds and mark them so you know where they are. Have a gunner friend whose job is to shoot the birds AND MARK THE BIRDS. your job is your dog. Walk the dog into the scent cone on a check cord and let the dog flush then...
