Re: Pigeon Loft Flooring

I have been racing pigeons for over 9 years. I have a solid floor and I placed pine needles over the floor. The needles have a resin that bugs do not like but are not harmful to the pigeons ( needles keep the dust down and droppings stick to the needles for easy clean up). Also, I have wooden grate...

Re: Pigeon Loft Flooring

If you use a solid floor and keep it dry, you don't need to clean it very often. maybe once a year. There are no health problemm if it is dry. Some racer let it get a foot deep. Not sure where you are, but my pigeons hatch at -20 or colder so I need a solid floor. I also think pigeons feet would go...

Pigeon Loft Flooring

I recently built an elevated loft based on the gun do supply pigeon loft plan. I put 1 inch chicken wire in for the flooring and plan to close off the elevated portion with smaller, stronger wire to keep predators out. My question is whether or not the chicken wire will make sufficient flooring? I a...

Re: Vehicle Choice

Garrison, it does look like space is limited in that Subaru with the dog box. I will probably end up going with a Silverado 1500. One day I want to get a Subaru and another day I want to get a truck. It really is a tossup as far as preference goes, and practicality is pushing me towards the truck.

Re: Vehicle Choice

One more point. or maybe the same point in a different way. If you plan to hunt where you say you do, later than October you need a real truck with four wheel drive. Maybe you could do alright with chains on a two wheel drive. Everybody who lives in the real country in the states you mention has a ...

Re: Vehicle Choice

As is the case with cjhills, I too have a 4wd Ford Expedition. You might find someone who has one and drive it, as they are much more like a large car in driving characteristics and maneuverability than your F150 truck. Nevertheless, not everyone needs the space and admittedly, gas mileage is not i...

OPT I live in north Minnesota grouse country, and have hunted most of the grouse country Minnesota, Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan plus pheasants. sharptails and huns in the Dakotas. My favorite vehicle is a Ford Expedition. I like that access to every thing is easy from the ground. I can haul fo...

Re: Vehicle Choice

Subarus have a very unearned reputation IMO... Something like that I'd be looking at a Jeep or Toyota. Even a Nissan. Wrangler, grand Cherokee,Cherokee, 4runner, rav4, Tacoma, frontier... Anyone of those would be suitable to varying degrees. 1/2 ton if you have another use for it but I wouldn't buy...

Re: Vehicle Choice

I grew up in Central PA and have both an Outback and a 4x4 Chevy Colorado. The Outback is great for fall trips and bad weather isn't expected but when the weather starts to turn, I take the truck. I can hunt areas right off paved roads or well maintained gravel roads with the Outback but I don't ta...

Vehicle Choice

Hello all, I am in the market for a new vehicle and am also expecting my first bird dog pup this fall. I am located in Central Pennsylvania, but I work remotely with my job and am planning to travel to different states starting in the fall of 2024 to chase birds with my dog. Really enjoyed that video. Raised and trained beagles for many years myself. Glad to see you back on the forum. :)

(Video starts after the ad members.)
Thanks for the comment! Beagles are definitely fun to hunt over!

2022-2023 Pennsylvania Rabbit Season

A couple of years ago I began filming my rabbit hunts with my two beagles Maggie and Molly. They will be 11 years old this spring and I liked the idea of capturing our hunts together so I could relive them someday when they are no longer able to hunt. Coming into this past season I wasn't sure how m...

Re: Finding The Right Breeder

This will give you a couple online breeder sites. You might look online at Gun Dog Breeders( this is where I used to advertise) They list a lot of breeders. You can narrow your search by breed & state. It will also list who has pups on the ground at this time. Since you aren't in a big hurry, I'd l...

Finding The Right Breeder

Hi all, I am finally in the market for my first bird dog. I live in south central PA but am certainly willing to travel for the right breeder. I am looking for a GSP and although I'm not in a huge rush to find a pup, I want to get the process started because I know I may end up on a waiting list. I ...
