Re: Predator Encounters

I've often wondered about areas up there with wolves and bears in the spring. Were I am it's snakes, alligators and boars. Mayby bear spray or a bear horn would work if you can't carry.

Re: Death Shake on Retrieves

That's very interesting, I don't think I've ever heard of a dog biting while doing ff, but I could see how it's very possible. I have two shorthairs so I'm going to try both methods. You have to understand that the GSP can be the most difficult of all dog's to ff. I'm going to have to keep this in m...

Re: Death Shake on Retrieves

Don't make excuses for the dog. The toe hitch is a great way to get your face bitten off. I have a short video on here showing a pup I ff'd by ch. with the jowl pinch. Take a look at it. If a dog won't ff using the ear pinch, the jowl pinch is a vey highly effective method and it is still an easy t...

Re: Death Shake on Retrieves

If the dog was able to pull all the feathers out of the dummy then you had no recall. 1) Recall - No recall, no retrieve regardless of their retrieving skills 2) Solid Hold - The "Hold" is where any and all mouth issues should be addressed 3) Walking Hold - Reinforcement of the "Hold" while the dog...

I've started doing hold work after he finishes a retrieve and he's already improving. Is there a differnece in the ear pinch and toe hitch in how they respond to the pressure?

Re: Death Shake on Retrieves

He recalls as soon as he grabs a bumper, its while he recalls he throws it, chomps it and shakes it. The reason i say i dont want to spoil it for him is because I started to do a ff almost a year ago and something went wrong. He lost almost all interest in bumpers for awhile. I guess I meant to say ...

Re: Switching dog food

Just an update here: I tried a bag of diamond performance, it's crap. After that I went to inukshuk 30/26 and I love it. He's been on it since may-June-ish and he eats two cups a day compared to four cups on PPP. One bag last eight weeks so it's roughly $30 a month for just him. I get it off chewy ...

Death Shake on Retrieves

So my two year old gsp lives for retrieving but has this really bad habit of doing a VERY forceful death shake when he is retrieving an object. It could be a bumper, frisbee, stick or anything else. He'll also throw it into the air and catch it in the middle of a retrieve. Another thing is, I got on...

Hi, I know most of you are probably leather gurus but I have biothane collars on my shorthairs, one from Tractor Supply and another from Front Range Gun Dog. I had already looked into that one and I don't think it's right for me. I like to have alot more stim range as my gsp is both sensitive and stubborn at the same time so sometimes all I need is vibrate and sometimes I need a little more. Thanks for the suggestion though, much appreciated!

Re: GSP pup eating other dogs poo from 15 months

I'm gonna say it's lack of nutrition from the hills science diet. Feed him a high protein and fat content food with some sort of grain to fill him. It could also be not enough food, although you said he's 62lbs so I doubt that. I wouldn't feed him raw, that's just me though. Moniter him on the walks...

So I was thinking of going biking with my dog. Anything I should know?

He heels really well, the only thing is he's reactive and I don't want him to lung at any dogs or people. Should he heel with the bike or forge ahead?

No problem with taking him on a check cord hunting, make sure he doesn't get tangled though. Hunting him under 6 months before he becomes 'rebellious' wouldn't have me two worried about perfect recall. Focus on gun intro and let instincts take over. I would be careful of shyness on birds or gun at t...
