Re: Thunder chickens
I’m VERY new so take this with a grain of salt, but a pointer/setter is not ideal. It’s just different. I’m just finishing up my first season with a two year old lab. I’ve looked to the Heller brothers with Grouse Commander and Jeremy Moore with DogBone Hunter for guidance. They do very well with fl...

Re: Grouse Hunting Stats Publication
After some more searching I found it. Loyal Order of Dedicated Grouse Hunters. A guy named Ken Szabo puts out a bi-monthly newsletter and annual survey results in a publication called Grouse Tales. I tried his email and had issues. But the number on the Facebook page worked. Nice guy. He’s sending m...

Grouse Hunting Stats Publication
Can anyone point me towards the publication that compiles grouse hunting statistics? I had a few pages of stats that included days hunted, flushes, birds to hand, gun used etc. I think these were grouped by state. I'm searching now and I can't find it in the house or online.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Transitioning Training
New guy here. New dog as well. I have a 2 year old lab that I'd like to use for some planted pheasants a few times a year. I bought the Wild Rose books and DVDs and feel like we have a decent foundation of sit/stay/here(needs work)/heel and some very limited lining/marking/casting. I finally got him...

Re: Choosing a Shotgun
Hi Sharon, I did get the message. Thanks for moving it and bumping it up.
I hope to get to a shop and get fitted correctly on day one this time. Also, taking a tour of the gun club tomorrow possibly.

Re: Choosing a Shotgun
Thanks for all the replies. The original thread was moved so I lost track for a moment. I have just a tiny bit of experience with shotguns. About seven years ago I had a BPS, Citori 725 Field 12 ga, and I think a Citori Superlight Feather 20 ga. Used all three on clays. The Citori 725 Field on pheas...

Choosing a Shotgun
Looking to buy a shotgun in the near future but my plans are very open at this point. Hoping to shoot clays, pheasants, and maybe grouse and/or ducks down the line. Is it better to start with a versatile gun first and see where I end up heading, or should I start with a clay gun work on my shot and ...

New from Mass
I'm on the North Shore of Massachusetts and am looking to get into a bit of bird hunting over the next few years. We just picked up a lab pup and my hope is to train it at a hunting preserve in NH and then be able to take it out to public lands and hunt stocked pheasants. I guess my long term goal w...
