Pup hesitant to jump in water from Place

My little Boykin Franny is 8 months old now. She is collar conditioned to sit, here, heel, and place. She is mostly a confident, high prey and retrieving drive puppy. She has no issues with gunfire, boat rides, exploring new areas, interacting with other dogs, etc... She has a noticeable weak point ...

Re: Puppy will not give

Thanks for the tips. I've tried all of the suggestions, and some work better than others with her. I was surprised that the lip pinch on her tooth just didn't work... I lifted up on her belly and she gave after a few seconds, popping her in the nose helped a little. I think at this point, I'll keep ...

Re: Puppy will not give

Thank yall for the help. I always keep her in the check cord when retrieving. I will admit, sometimes I can get frustrated. The first live bird she ever got, she wouldn't give the bird and she growled and bit me. I was furious and popped her pretty good... I know that's not fun for her. All of the o...

I have not used any pressure with her yet, she is being collar conditioned. Recently, I introduced her to birds... First I put...

Re: Am I being too hard? Not hard enough?

The towel at the root really isn't the issue, if it's not the towel it will be something else I'm sure. I'd just like to hear from experienced the proper way to address a puppy acting out.

Am I being too hard? Not hard enough?

I want my puppy to have fun with everything, as much as possible. That being said, I've said "no" more in the past 2 months more than the past 32 years of my short life. My 4 month old Boykin puppy has a habit or pulling down the towel from the oven handle. She does this, Im almost positive, out of ...

First timer

I've been waiting since high school to get into a good spot to have a lot of time, resources, and funds to commit to properly training a retriever for waterfowl. 13 years later, here I am. I've been lurking the forums for a while, but since we are ever nearing actually bringing a pup home, I figured...
