I like the ole' wing on a pole, but not alot ofit. I have noticed that too much of it (like as in training with it) can take away from style or interest in the long run. I also like to take things like a chew rope for dogs and throw it into the air like a downed bird and let the dog go and get it an...

I have two 9 month old orange and white setters. Both littlermates from some Tekoa breeding. Currently both dogs are going through some pigeon work, and some work on an ecollar. This breed is very special to me. Both my dad and his brother inherited this itch for setters from my grandfather who stil...

Now I am at that point with the pups where the command "here" and a sharp tap with the checkcord means something and the pups respond by coming to me. To me this means that the pups know what here means and they understand that if they do not respond they will get the tap ( or multiple taps) until t...

agreed. the woods and the grouse in them will teach your dog about 75% of what he will need to be a good grouse dog. My dogs and dogs in the past have learned their range by just being in the woods and hunting while trying to keep with me. If your dogs have what it will take, nature will ultimately ...

The best dog I have ever hunted behind belongs to my uncle. He is now 11 and a half year old solid white setter. Since I don't have any glamorous pictures of him I will say this, that dog just understood the game. Whenever it seemed like there were just no birds, it was like that dog could create th...

Oh yeah, lots of trees, native grasses, and tons of edges. Around here there are alot of thickets and in the edges of those thickets is where the majority of the birds stay. The grounds, which consist of around 1,800 acres is maintained to where there are alot of edges and between those edges are st...

Well me and you are kind of in the same boat. So what I am doing ...

I don't do NSTRA but that is the one thing I do like about the organization. The retrieve and the actual gun make it more of a real life hunting situation and I do like that. Although at some trials I have seen dogs run human scent all the way to where the birds were planted and that wasn't very goo...

It's mainly a regional thing, there is a misconception that pointers have the rap of being big, wide running dogs, with little intelligence in the north. But further south I have found that alot of the pointer people tend to think that setters are softer and not as aggressive on game. It's really fu...

Ok, I know there is a split discussion on whether to give your dog Ivomec or not, but as for me, I am an Ivomec person and I think it does great. My question is, at what age do some of you guys start giving you pup's Ivomec?
