Is the dog going to make him become an upland hunter?
Only asking because that is what drives me to chase birds:D

OK Wildlife Department denied they were in OK for years. I know several that have seen them. Three years ago I saw one, the pointers took off after one into a draw around Red Rock. The year after that I found some tracks on some land north of Barnsdall... No black panthers? :) I always thought the ...

You cannot have "Debate" unless it is civilized discussion. Any personal attacks are only distracting & bring emotion into it. If you cannot have civilized, open, polite discourse then you might as well get out the sticks, stones, clubs & go back to the cave. Rational debate is about a specific iss...

Re: TOUCHY TOUCHY TOUCHY
While I agree that having a diverse vocabulary and not using double negatives is important, I have never understood why cussing bothers people. It is a word. A vibration that is interpreted by your brain as syllables and words. The whole notion that a word is so "bad" that you can't say it is actua...

I agree on the people that can't express themselves without cussing. The problem IMHO is those that can't disagree and even debate without personal attacks. Just because I may disagree with Tom, "bleep", or Harry doesn't mean they are stupid, crooks, or I need to insult them. I should be able to hav...

Don't know if this is a feature or policy issue, but I'm far more active on other forums... Generally the more informative forums (In my experience) are slow to lock threads (for slander/libel/etc) and instead moderate posts. Strict policies about personal attacks and slander seem to be effective in...

Not trying to steal your spots, just general area. I lived north of Shreveport as a teen and didn't know any bird hunters. Other than waterfowl. (I grew up in a non hunting house)

I have 3' 4' and 6' leashes I use when walking dogs.
Which one depends on the area, how likely they are to be off leash, and stuff like that.

Something a buddy that has trained lots of dogs told me when I had my first EP at that age was to just take him somewhere with lots of pigeons he can chase. He'll figure out he can't catch em. We spent some time at parks and it made a huge difference. Helps a light go off in their heads and overlays...

Worry about pointing for now, get him GOOD at that, then worry about retrieving.

Running year round helped my last pointer (I'm a one dog at a time guy) a LOT. Times they did get torn up I would slather them with Corona, and they were good to go the next weekend... Usually better in a few days. I know it's a different solution, but it worked for me, but I'm in deferent terrain.....

I've got one of these I use for hunting and training. The pockets in the back are for water bottles, but work great for dummys as well.

Lost/Stolen Dog (Roland, OK/Fort Smith, AR)
I was driving home to the Tulsa area (Sapulpa) on Saturday May 15th from near Mountianburg, AR to visit a friend and see the mountains. I stopped at the Pilot in Roland, OK just before 10:00 PM to buy some fuel, and stretch my legs/get a bottle of water. I had 2 dogs in plastic kennels in the bed of...

Rick, I'm pretty sure my dog is really wimpy. He was also too skinny last winter and that may have been a big part of it, we're working on that. I may get a chance to do some hunting in the northern part of the state this year so I'll most likely get him a vest before we go up there just in case he...

English Pointer, because I mostly hunt Quail and Pheasants. And if there are enough quail, I don't mind not having pheasants. Plus my best friend runs pointers as well, and I wanted the same thing.
