Re: WH pointing griffon vs. French Brittney

I have never hunted with an FB and my Griff is my first gundog so my experiences are limited. I have hunted my Griff on Blue grouse, Mtn quail, valley quail, phesant and waterfowl. I have been very happy. I also have three small children including 5 year old twins and an 18 month old plus a Yorkshir...

Re: How to pick between breeds

Just get the best WPG you can find and be done with it! They do everything you mentioned you wanted to do and are the smartest, best looking, most loyal, have the best breath (you don't know how to kiss a woman until you've been mouthed by a griff!), love children, gentlest, and everything else. :w...

Re: Wirehair Pointing Griffons, New to Board, Hello

welcome to the forum. I cant give you any advice on duck hunting cause this will be my griff's first duck season. But so far I have been very happy with his upland hunting. He is my first gundog so everything he does has been mostly natural ability. Good luck.

Re: Natural Ablilities Testing ?'s

prairiegoat, I dont know how much it would effect your dog down the road by enticing him into water using a bird, but during the NA test if you have to use a bird to get him to swim he gets docked on his score.

Justin, for upland birds I think the closest ranches maybe the ones in Sonoma or Napa county. There are a few in the central coast around Monterey and such. I know none of them are close for you. It makes it hard for day trips. Ill keep my eyes and ears open for any possibilities.

the bad thing is there is really nothing close to the Bay Area in regards to clubs, preserves, etc.. Everything is about 1 hour plus including state wildlife areas. There is one National WA right there at the south end of the SF bay that allows hunting during waterfowl season, but its unknown if dog...

I probably read that same article and used it. It seemed to work/help. He puts his nose to the ground when I give the command. I transitioned to freshly killed birds and then tracking. My dog recently received a perfect score on his NAVHDA NA tracking portion of the test. I took him to the feather p...

another good day

I took my Griff pheasant hunting for the 2nd time on Sunday. We worked a majority of the field with my buddies lab and found several birds. Then we let my dog have a turn. I had him off leash and he worked the field in what I thought was very good way. He stayed within a good range and eventually fo...

Winchester 1200...pump..My dad bought me my first shotgun when I was about 13..a winchester pump. I used it for over 20 years for everything from upland, waterfowl, squirrels and rabbits and never had a problem. So, about 2 years ago, my wife bought me a new winchester pump, but this one is in camo....

Hi, New to the board and owning a gun dog. I recently found this site and thought it had a lot of info to offer so I joined. I recently bought my first gun dog, Spoonie. He is now a 13 week old, Griffon. I hunt ducks and upland her in Ca. so I wanted a versatile pointing dog. Plus I have twin 3 year...
