Re: Death Shake on Retrieves
If the dog was able to pull all the feathers out of the dummy then you had no recall. 1) Recall - No recall, no retrieve regardless of their retrieving skills 2) Solid Hold - The "Hold" is where any and all mouth issues should be addressed 3) Walking Hold - Reinforcement of the "Hold" while the dog ...

Re: Training to back and silhouette
An important note about backing. A dog should back at first sight no matter how far it is from the pointing dog. If the backing dog is in the scent cone it isn't a back and could lead to steadiness problems with one or both dogs. I used a method similar to ckirsh. For me, if I'm using a silhouette a...

I think Walker was a disciple of the West/Gibbons method. Mo lindley is also a follower of the same method but has tweaked it somewhat to use launchers and homers. I lean towards his method because he doesn't utilize a helper as much as some of the others.

The bar height is 34 inches. The extensions are 1" I.D. square tubing (.120 wall or 11 gauge). With the .120 inch wall this makes the O.D. 1 !/4". The receivers are lighter gauge, probably 16 gauge. Not exactly sure what I.D. though. Inside dimension would have to be a little larger than 1 1/4". If ...

For my NAVHDA pups I never started tracking exposure until the pups were pointing birds. For a pup I prefer walks in the field letting them learn to use/trust their nose and work on a good recall. As an example, for the German Tests there is a lot of focus on tracking and many new owners of VDD (Dra...

Here are two options for tie outs or chain gangs. Hard to find good dog equipment so I normally make my own using chain or 1/8" cable + crimps. Rather than use the double ended snaps it is just as easy to use a bronze snap at each end.
