Get one with a beeper that you can turn on and off from the transmitter. Some day, you'll be very happy you have a "locate" option.

Have you ever been bird hunting? Find a friend who hunts, call up a local preserve, post your location here. Just go out as an observer with someone who has a decent dog. Don't take your dog or a gun. Just watch. See what it has to offer. For many of us--and certainly for your dog--it's a lot. You m...

Don't get carrried away with yourself, guys. There is a difference between "retrieving" and "technically-adept precision handling". A good Chesapeake on a goose or a tough duck will probably help you to understand. Or perhaps not. People see what they want to see.

No conflict or problem at all, if you've got the time and talent to train and, of course, the right dog. l've got a buddy with an Airedale who's a Schutzhund III, has an advanced tracking title and and a MH (Airedale title). He's a good flushing dog, a fine retriever and a perfectly nice fellow.

Worth considering what sexes you're dealing with. If you have a male GSP and want to add a male Ymer, that is likely to be a very different proposition than adding a bitch. Especially in the house. In England, pigeon shooting is a big deal. You can sell the cleaned wood pigeon carcasses to meat dealers, much of whose market is in Belgium or France, for about 75p or 3/4 pound. About $1.20, the last time I looked into it.

Big bags of over 500 birds are not unknown, though not usual.

What breed did you have in mind? It may also depend on you (or the wife). Different personalities may alter the answer. Differe...
