Kansas and or Missouri this fall need info

Trying to plan a trip this fall to get Nick into some wild birds. Would like to try Kansas and or Missouri or open to other suggestions. I need help finding info on public land access for self guided hunting. Any info greatly appreciated.

I’m not too far from you and I get mine from Vicks game birds in Oneonta Alabama. Good healthy strong flying birds. 205 589 6416. Would be probably 3 maybe 4 hours from you. I’m in nw Alabama

I did start him early in a long hallway and or lane in the yard. Kept it fun and he did well. When we started on birds on check cord I even let him go get the tethered bird if he held steady. I realize discomfort is part of the process. What I meant was that at the hold stage I don’t want to physically clamp down on his mouth and cause unnecessary pain from having his lips and jowls pinched and bitten at this stage.

I enjoy the peace and quiet of being out with a bird dog. As I have finally matured a little I have learned that from me trainer wise less is often more. I enjoy the field trials and in my area at least they have birds. Otherwise its buy birds and create my own or pay to hunt a preserve. I’ve had both in the house. To some extent in my experience any dog with spaniel in its name has been hyper. The setters I’ve had tend to be more laid back. Less barking etc.

I also use the hunt smith method. The point of contact on the flank is solely for whoa which i think causes less confusion early on. Once pup "gets it" then it all transfers to the neck just as a reminder. Plus if pup forgets which they all do sometimes. You can quickly go to hslf hitch on flank or ...
