Re: alpha vs 550 plus

That all makes sense. Early on the training will be the most important part so it sounds like the Alpha is out. I suppose it probably makes more sense to invest in the plus vs regular 550 so I can switch the collar to an alpha system later on if I want to eventually go that route. For now I do have ...

alpha vs 550 plus

Hi guys, Just put a deposit down on my new dog, and he will need a new collar system (once he is old enough). I used a tritronics G3 on my last dog which was fine, and messed around with a delta a bit on a non hunting dog (which was garbage). I had been interested in the alpha for the tracking abili...

Re: crates

In the house wire crate is fine. In the ruck or back of the suv Rough Tuff crate for me. I hunt late season in some pretty cold places, the crate with a cover on it has kept my dogs warm well down in to the negatives. Also like that the door can come off so it doubles as a dog house so the dogs can...

crates

Hey guys, I just put a deposit down on a setter pup. I am super excited and trying to get all my ducks in a row before he comes home. I have always used wire crates, and frankly dont even remember why I went that way when I bought them. It seems in general though the plastic ones are more popular wi...

launcher

Hi guys, I am starting to plan out my training purchases for the new pup I am getting so I can start buying pieces at a time rather than all at once next summer. Last bird dog I trained only got wild birds, due to my living situation way back then I just didnt have a place to keep birds or train eas...

Re: timing for a puppy

Well deposit is down on the pup. It is the breeder and litter I want, not even going to worry about the time of year anymore. I appreciate all the help. I will update with pics when I can.

Re: timing for a puppy

Yea you are right. Honestly as I think back in detail by bad winter potty training experience might have been bad any time or year with that dog. It was a bloodhound pup that would drink way to much water and then have to pee constantly. If he peed in his crate he would slurp up the bathwater as you...

Re: Do you stay with one breed or switch?

I have been weighing this decision heavily. I had Britts as a young child although before I was old enough to hunt. The first dog I got as an adult was a Britt and he has also been the best dog I have owned, not a champ hunter but good but just plain the best pet I have ever had. I have had other no...

timing for a puppy

Hey Guys, Quick question, I am planning to get a new pup soon, an English Setter. I have pretty much settled on a breeder who I will also use to do some training for me as the pup gets older. There will likely be an October litter from a pairing that I think will be a good fit. My only concern is wh...

Re: Where does your dog ride?

In general ride in the passenger seat unless my wife is with then the back seat. If they are real muddy I have a seat cover for the backseat and he will go there.

new guy

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to quickly introduce myself. From Minnesota, primarily hunt grouse and a little pheasant, hunted over a Brittany since 05 but had to put him down this spring. Getting a new dog this fall so wanted to join to brush up on my training since it has been awhile.
