Re: A few pictures from the past season...
Looks like you and your pup had a great year. That's some nice country. And no you're not alone. September can't come soon enough.

Sounds like Nick is lucky to have you as an owner and you're in the right mindset and attitude. Nice post.

Re: Despite my username... I'm getting a setter
bama Nick is a good looking dog, but he might have competition with my shorthair, Rowdy. Rowdy loves the ladies (even though this one is spayed).

Truly off grid. Takes a lot of work I imagine, but worth it. Looks like saving horse money to me though

Yeah Don, Holly is the one who told me about the dog and I jumped on the opportunity. You guys could be right about the weight I didn't think she looked overweight in the pic but the vet thought she was. Who knows. I'll have to see when I pick her up.

Re: Despite my username... I'm getting a setter
Thanks guys. I'm pretty excited for this dog. I'm lucky to have her. I see this situation as more of an adoption/rescue than a rescue. She's got a good home right now and holds down the couch. But she isn't getting used for what she was bred for at all. I rescued a 12 year old wirehair about 4 years...

Despite my username... I'm getting a setter
Well, title says it all. Always been a German dog guy (and still am) but I got a soft spot for good hunting dogs in need of a good hunting home. Adopting this nice, not-quite-3-year-old setter next week. Comes from hunting lines but has not been hunted or really even trained for that matter. Gonna b...

Fall is a good time of year...
Feels like fall with the official kick off of the season a few days ago. Weather in the 50s. Overcast. Nice day for Rowdy to put in 24 miles in the grouse woods.

Re: Bird Report from Northern Montana
Headed to Montana for the first time this year. Going to pick up a puppy and make a hunt out of it so can’t really cancel at this point. Pheasants will be open by the time we make our trip out. Hopefully the pheasants fared a little better than sharpies and huns. These poor reports have me a little...

Bird Report from Northern Montana
My dog Rowdy and I went up near the Canadian border, in MT for the first 3 days of the season opener. I can tell you that birds are extremely scarce and the covies are small. The first day, Rowdy put in over 24 miles on the Garmin. Early in the day, he pointed a single sharptail that flushed out of ...

Re: Do you stay with one breed or switch?
I have had pointers for over 60 years for the hunting we do they are the best. So no I won't switch. If I only hunted upland, I would have at least one pointer, but with at least 50% of my hunting spent waterfowling, it wouldn't be ideal. Some of the absolute very best upland dogs I have had the pl...

Re: Do you stay with one breed or switch?
I have had 2 shorthairs and a wirehair. Those are likely the only two breeds I will ever have. I like all working breeds of dogs, but for my purposes, those are the two that work best for me.

Re: New Guy Here
It was 115 in Lewiston yesterday, I heard. Crazy hot. The state high ever was in Orofino at 118. That's friggin Phoenix stuff. So crazy... did not help the wildfire situation at all. Surprise Creek Fire up here in the Cabinets grew by 700 acres the day it was 107. Fortunately it's calmed down to 80...

You must be in the valley. The state high temp record was set up there.
No, I live in Sagle, just south of Sandpoint.
Wow. I figured with those temps you were in Lewiston, I guess it went over 110 there on Thursday. It's 95 in IF now.
It was 115 in Lewiston yesterday, I heard...

How hot is it down in Oregon right now? 107 here in North Idaho at the moment... I can't wait for October. You must be in the valley. The stat...

New Guy Here
New to this forum. Thought I would introduce myself. Been on another dog forum for 6 years or so, but new to this one. I live in Idaho. Hunt upland and ducks with my shorthair, Rowdy. Got another shorthair on the way from Outlander GSPs, next spring/summer. Hunting season is so close I can almost ta...
