Tough Start to my Season
https://youtu.be/L3O48mX3kUQ?si=oUnKftBqg3rRsg57 Temperatures hit 70 degrees and the wind was almost nonexistent all day. We found birds, but many flushed just out of range. I had three opportunities in just over 11 miles of walking. I connected with all three roosters, but we were only able to reco...

Looks like a great day / super pic. :) Thanks for posting. Wild pheasant are totally gone here in Ontario :( due to farming styles etc. We still have several game farms we can use though. Are those dogs related? Hi Sharon. A great way to start the season. I live in a rural suburb of Colorado. 25 ye...

https://huntfishgolfwork.com/the-225-mile-u-turn/ I can recall almost every hunt that Echo and I have experienced over the last 5 years. There are some hunts however that stand out because something remarkable occurs. Most often it is Echo doing something so tremendous that the moment is emblazoned ...

Well. If I wrung my hands every time I missed a couple shots on a bird I wouldn't be able to hold a gun, much less type on a keyboard. It'd be pretty boring to hit every shot. Agreed on the catch and release hunting. As a pointing dog newbie I am finding I am enjoying the extended season a pointing...

Our Final Hunt of the 2020/2021 Season
The 2020/2021 Colorado upland hunting season is over for Echo and me. We fortunate to bag 2 roosters on our final day in the field. We also witnessed a lot of birds. Hopefully Eastern Colorado gets a lot of moisture this spring. The farmers need some help. Josey and I will start our retraining progr...

Re: A Colorado Upland Hunt - Josey's First Hunt on Wild Birds - January 3, 2021
What do you think scared her? Sounds like it could be one of two things. Did you hit her with the e collar trying to get her back to you when she was lost, or did she tighten up after you shot the gun? Our first field (a corner with decent cover) was a great initial walk. She tracked a lone rooster...

Re: An Unfortunate Miss
I joined a gun club and shot skeet every week. Highly recommend it. All of a sudden the birds will appear to be in slow motion. :) That is a solid plan. I just need to make the time. My early season practice at the range did work well for the most of the year. Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk

I didn’t mean to imply that you were slow or old (I’m quickly getting to be both, myself!). I just meant that bird caught the wind and was out of sight in a hurry. No offense taken. I am old. My reaction time seems to be ok (identify, mount swing, trigger). My vision sometimes is off, and the walk ...

It always amazes me how quickly these birds fly! It looks like he went with the wind and I’d guess he was 30 yards out before you even fired a shot. Neat video! Missing sucks. Missing your only opportunity at a rooster on the final steps in a 13 mile walk is deflating. The negative feeling is amplified when your bird dog does everything right, and you fail to deliver. I have had a good season with the shotgun. Almost everything that I have aimed at has drop...

This was the most challenging upland bird hunt I have ever experienced. Cold winds exceeded 40 mph throughout the day. There were a few times when I thought I was going to fall over. Ah that's the worst. My dog did the same exact thing chasing a crippled quail in October. Looks like the injury was in "bleep" near the same spot as well. I’ve been seeing the same thing in Colorado. The past couple years have been very sparse. Spring hail storms, yet not enough rain to produce good grass.
