Re: Best Puppy food for a GSP
We're on our first bird dog (GSP) and I wanted to make sure he got the "best." We were probably also a little too susceptible to blog-based nutrition fads. So we fed Orijen Puppy to our GSP for the first year. He loved it, he grew nicely with a very good coat and he took to all his training just fin...

Food Rotation Question
I have a 3yo GSP in good health, very active, hunts, etc. The problem is he goes through periods of turning up his nose at his kibble. I am currently feeding Nutrisource Performance and I have been very happy with the results. Prior to that, on the recommendation of my vet, I was feeding Victor High...

Re: Feeding Rules of Thumb?
Thanks for all the input. Just to clarify a couple points: First, I hear what you're saying about a young GSP always looking skinny. In this case, however, our vet is a serious upland hunter - like 50+ days a year - with decades of experience owning, training, treating and working gun dogs like ours...

Feeding Rules of Thumb?
My 18-month old GSP just got back from the vet. They say he’s a little on the skinny side, and sure enough he’s lost a few pounds over the past three months or so. He just did 10 days of boarding/training at the training kennel where he has done all his training and boarding, and I noticed he did co...

Re: Pointer hunting with flusher issues?
Thanks for all the input. I spoke with our trainer yesterday too. His inclination was that the behavior was more about all the gunfire than the other dogs, but I take this board's advice about labs vs. pointers too. The net of all the research and input is that we're going to hunt solo a couple time...

Happy to be here.
I am getting back into upland hunting after a very long absence. I used to hunt the fields around our farm with my dad, but a long period of school, moving, job, moving, school, moving, kids, moving, etc has kept me out of the field. I decided to jump back in with both feet, so I bought a GSP pup a ...

Pointer hunting with flusher issues?
Hi - This is my first post on this forum. I hope you can help with this situation and questions. First, a little background: I grew up hunting pheasants in the fields around our farm in MN. We mostly just walked fence rows, but we also had a friend with a Brittany. I absolutely loved watching her wo...
