English setter won't point
lookong for some advice with training my 10 month old setter. This is my first time trying to train a bird dog and I just started working with pigeons and a launcher this week. I've probably used 20 birds over the last 4 or 5 days. This is his first exposure to birds in the field. I'm not sure if I'...

Re: Weak flying birds
I appreciate the responses, and I am working on finding some hard flying pigeons. But in the meantime is there anything I can work on with the weak flying quail?

Weak flying birds

They wont flush and will only fly about 30 or 40 feet before they fall to the ground. Is there anything i can do with these guys f...

Introduction to birds
I'm looking for some guidance with introducing my dog to birds. I wanted to introduce them when my pup was younger, but he broke his leg and was not able to run for the last few months. He's an 8 month old English setter. I'm planning on buying some pigeons very soon, but I'm not exactly sure how I ...

Re: Growth plate injury
depending on how old he is and how advanced the curvature is, you may be able to find someone who would do corrective surgery. I had a young lab with the same problem 5 or 6 yrs ago. I cut a chunk out of the middle of the ulna, and replaced it with fat taken from the dogs flank. this allows the rad...

Growth plate injury
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with their dogs injuring their growth plates. My English setter pup (4 months old at the time) broke his front left leg about a month and a half ago, so he was in a cast for the first 4 weeks, no surgery required. After he got the cast off, his leg wa...

pigeon loft in back yard
Im planning on getting some pigeons soon and building a loft in my back yard. I live on about three acres and my english setter pup runs around free back there. Is it a bad idea to keep the loft where the dog can see it and see the birds inside?

Setter pup first time in field
I have a 5 month old setter pup and im trying to get him some work in the field with some pigeons. Up to now ive just been working on the basics; house training, socializing, here, and whoa. Hes 100% with recall in the house, pretty good in the yard, i have him drag a 30ft lead around, but he pretty...
