Re: Update on pup

Sharon- thank you, it’s beena lot of fun with these two. Averageguy- I figured I shouldn’t let him do it now or he’d think it’s okay. He’s only done that 2-3 times when he pulls feathers, and I’d say no and go get it, but when he retrieves let him hold it for a few seconds while I praise and pet him...

Update on pup

The pup is now 10 months old, pushing about 65ish lbs. had our annual ND hunting trip on the weekend of the 18th. Bird numbers were down especially where we were. Only got 10 the first day(7hunters) and we only hunted the morning Sunday then left due to bad weather and didn’t get a bird. Both my dog...

Re: Running 2 Pointing Dogs at Once

This post came from mine earlier, and I agree with cj and I don’t know if you’ve ran multiple dogs with other people or your own a lot of times, or if you just say that’s what happens. If your dogs are so well trained, and you hold them to such a high standard, why can’t they hunt with another dog e...

Re: Young dog to hunt with older dog

Yeah it shouldn’t be too much of a problem to run them mostly separate this season. The only thing I’m worried about is leaving a dog in a crate or in the box while I’m running the other dog and someone taking one of them. But I figured since he worked so well with the other dog that weekend that ma...

I’ll do mostly alone work then until he’s a little more mature and can handle it. I want to be able to run them together because I haven’t had a problem with more than one or multiple dogs and people hunting a field and I think they need to be able to work well together. Now if that takes a full sea...

When the pup really gets on him and catches up and is trying to bite at him to play, then he stops on a dime and gets him. But when he’s not trying to bite he hasn’t. So I have a 8 month old shorthair that is very high energy, but in the field does very well and has since he was 5 months. The Garmin 550 plus is simple and has a direction arrow, dog stud indicator and range, on a mini screen on the bottom of the handheld. The handheld is what I call a stick handheld/remote. It’s what all the main training collars are like.

The traveling would be usually 1hour+. Quite a few 5 hour trips and 1 maybe 2 that are around 10 hours. I was thinking intermediate should work okay. Say he gets the size of his sire, Tell, and get to 68-70 lbs would that size still work?

I use a large for my setter and he’s only 37 lbs. but he also probably has quite a bit more room than needed. I’m sure a large will do just fine. I’ve seen a lot of people use larges for like 60-65lb dogs. Xlarge would give the dog some extra room and that way if he grows he has the room needed.
