Re: Hold Command
Thanks for the responses. I figured it out.... Surprisingly, she HATES the paint roller. I used it because program said dogs tend to love it. Switched to a wooden dowel and instantly changed her mood. I know after FF she won’t have an option but at this point, her resistance and clamming up to the r...

Re: Rabbit Hunting with Drahthaar
Drahthaar isn’t a pointer. They hunt rabbits- that’s my question to those who have used them to hunt- was it natural for the dog to chase? Did you train to break?

Rabbit Hunting with Drahthaar
I know this is a dumb question- hence why I’m asking on here haha Anyone hunt rabbits with a drahthaar? If so, what is the proper way? Does the dog point then flush and chase? Just chase? I’m new to the drahthaar world and loving it. My dogs 1 and we had a great upland season. We are easing into wat...

Retrieve Issues
Quick Background- Pup is 6 months old Drahthaar Crazy drive and hunts/tracks/points with awesome natural form *Issue She has no desire to retrieve. If I throw something in the house as a young pup- she would chase and bring it back to me while I sat on the ground. She gets really excited when I toss...

Garmin Alpha
Finally made the jump and got the Alpha with two collars. IM in the process of getting them set up and marked up for easy on in the field. It looks like both collars came with the extended range antenna on already. Question- which antenna do you all use? is it worth it to just leave the 22 inch ante...

Crate Training Issue
Good afternoon, Last week I brought home my first Drahthaar. She is amazing and I know is going to be a good challenge to train. I have a Vizsla and all my previous training of dogs has been on Vizslas or labs. I can already tell the Drahthaar is going to be very different in training style. My bigg...

Colorado hunt
I will be going out to Boulder for work and wanted to know if there is anywhere close (45 minutes) from there that I could bird (upland) hunt. It would have to be a private reserve because I don't want to get a hunting license and bring my gear. Any help pointing me to a good guide would be much app...

Good Afternoon all, I tried to hunt with a buddy and his GSP ( I have a Vizsla) and it did not go well at all. My boy seemed to only want to follow the GSP around. He is an intact male and she is a spayed female. My guy normally outhunts his dog on outings when we meet up after a hunt. Yesterday we ...

Re: Vizsla seems spooky/on edge
Your V is going through a fear stage. A lot of dogs do. My vizsla went through the stage around 6 months. Loud noises still scare him and he is always on edge. Once in the field, he is different. He hunts hard and could care less about the loud shots. This took a lot of time and effort though. I sug...

Distracted in the field
Today was the first time I ran my dog actually hunting. Up until this point, it was planted birds 1 or 2 at a time and in a controlled setting. We were off to a great start. He was hard charging and making up ground fast. After he retrieved the first shot bird, I put it in my vest. This si the first ...

Re: Intro to Gun
Thank you- all for the suggestions and advice. This weekend we had a breakthrough! I shot a 12 gauge over my dog and he retrieved the quail and the shot didnt even make him flinch. By the third bird, he didnt move until he heard the shot! VERY excited to say the least after investing so much time an...

Good Morning- My Vizsla has been making huge strides and is starting to push out further and further. This is a good thing because that is what I have been trying to get him to do. However, i now need a way to know where he is and also be able to control him at that distance. Originally, I got a che...

Re: Intro to Gun
NO gun range for me. Might work for some but I will stick to the gun only in association with birds. I will be starting back at 100 this weekend. Thanks for the tips! I am in no rush, rather want to get this right!
