Re: Food Help

Purina plants I go to are for cattle feed only around here, and hopefully their dog/cat food facilities are not like their cattle feed ones. Its terrifyingly below lowest standards imaginable. Purina's livestock feed division and its factories were sold in 1986 to Land O'Lakes. Purina Mills is a co...

Re: Food Help

From what I've read is that most of Eukanuba's dry dog foods are being made in Australia. Here is a link to an article from their web site: https://www.eukanuba.com/au/articles/eukanuba-transition Like others have said above, I'd look at switching your dog to something like Pro Plan. With respect, ...

Re: Pet Insurance

I've used 2 companies( Pets + Us, and Pet Plan) ,and just quit from the last company. The decision is in the details ,which probably I didn't read carefully enough. "$500 per year with a $250 deductible and 80% coverage." your quote ( Perhaps this company is better than what I tried.) What I found:...

Thanks for pointing that out. I'd never used it so I didn't know. Sometimes a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. :)

Re: Does anybody rotate formulas to avoid protein intolerance?

Used to be Canola but I did find an oil that is 50 some % Linseed so I bought a gallon. We have found Linseed Oil shows op in the coat though We couldn't see where it helped in any other way. Don't think there is a winning animal in the show ring that doesn't get Linseed added to their diet. Just h...

Re: Does anybody rotate formulas to avoid protein intolerance?

I feed ProPlan Lamb and Rice to all dogs, including pups year round, in the winter and when exercising hard I add a tablespoon to 2 tablespoons of used canola oil. Canola oil only because that is what the wife cooks with for me. Old fashion lard would do as well for a dog. Just bumping the fat up a...

Quite an endorsement :) Wonderful your dogs have lived so long.

Do you feed the same formula to all of the dogs?

Do you ever change formulas?

Do you ever add anything to the Pro Plan?

Thanks.

Re: Does anybody rotate formulas to avoid protein intolerance?

Keep feeding your lap dog corn gluten meal and pretending it's the best stuff out there. As long as we're getting personal as well as way off topic, here's FDR: "These Republican leaders have not been content with attacks on me, or my wife, or on my sons. Re: Does anybody rotate formulas to avoid protein intolerance?

Here we go again. After this many times maybe no one will bite. Maybe the nth time is the charm and someone will tell us why corn gluten meal (aka corn protein concentrate) is preferable to or even equivalent to chicken meal, fish meal, pork meal, or other animal based protein concentrates? I mean,...

I haven't been here very long, but I know a troll when I see one. Instead of repeating a subjective opinion that everyone here has heard many times before perhaps you'd like to address my original question? I was not asking anyone's permission to feed a particular food. I have never seen any scient...

Re: Does anybody rotate formulas to avoid protein intolerance?

P.S. It is worthy to note that "chicken" is the first ingredient listed in Pro Plan only because the odd regulations allow for the weight to include the water weight of pre-processed chicken. If the label showed the dry weight chicken would be far (far) down the list. This is a cereal product with ...

Re: Does anybody rotate formulas to avoid protein intolerance?

For years I fed ProPlan, then with a number of my dogs retired I tried some cheaper feed with poor results. Now back to ProPlan. But there are other quality feeds that would do as well. In the end, the cost is close to the same, as I feed less. I have a 15 year old that I left on ProPlan to not cau...

Does anybody rotate formulas to avoid protein intolerance?

First post from new member. I don't know the first thing about gun dogs or guns (I live in New York City). I joined here specifically because Ezzy's posts helped me to overcome my dog food obsession. Between his explanations of nutrition and manufacturing practices and the anecdotal experience of ot...
