Re: anyone hunted ND or SD yet
I hunted SE ND during the week of Thanksgiving. We did great. I do not think bird numbers were down in that area.

This will be for long trips. We live in Idaho, but are originally from North Dakota, so we make a couple trips back a year.

Min Size Crate for dog
Trying to size a crate for behind the 3rd row of seats in my 2009 Chevy Suburban. 3 dogs, 40lb Gordon Setter, 45lb Boxer and a 60lb GSP. The current set up is two large crates. Setter and Boxer in one, the GSP in another. With this set up, one of the 3rd row seats needs to be folded up. How much roo...

I relocated......now what?? Idaho and surrounding upland!!
I packed up the family and moved from ND to Northern Idaho this past summer. Definitely missing being 15 min from primo pheasant ground. I have a exuberant 2 year old GSP and a wise 11 year old Gordon chomping to get out. https://photos.smugmug.com/Hunting/2016-12-01-Hunt/i-xdVZqzD/0/1dfb3f15/L/DSC_...

Re: 9 month old GSP.......chasing on the flush
My 9 year old Setter does the same thing, but stops the chase within 25 yards if she does not hear the shot........... My biggest question is do I let he be a puppy, or try to correct it now? Up to this point she can do absolutely no wrong........I am letting her be a puppy. The only time she has be...

9 month old GSP.......chasing on the flush
I have a question regarding my 9 month old GSP. She is just starting to put all the pieces together. Pointing birds, retrieving, etc. Last couple times out she has pointed some birds nicely. When I flushed it, it turned out to be a Hen and she chased it up and over the hill with no regard for my com...

Re: In the market for a strap vest
I have an older version of the Pella and it is a PITA to load birds into.......and a limit of healthy Roosters barely fits. I do love it though. The water bottle holders are awesome, and it has the perfect amount of storage for a Midwest hunter IMO. I have had this one for 10+ years and it has held ...

Re: North dakota Hunting report?
I hunt further east but have had zero problems finding birds so far this season. Bird numbers are up. Bean harvest is done.....and they are working hard on Corn. My only advice is be quiet. Birds get educated in a hurry. Don't slam truck doors, minimal communication between hunters and to dogs. Good...

Re: Question about first season with a GSP
I have been hunting her alone mostly. My setter is on injured reserve right now due to a fight with a fence and needing stiches. The pup and I have been out 2 times since that happened. Every time out she gets more bold and learns a thing or two about those wild birds. My main goal is getting her on...

I like this one. http://www.bucksbags.com/cm_cat.asp?id=2 Includes a water bladder Waist belt (Similar to a back back) Elastic shoulder straps. Re: Question about first season with a GSP
In my opinion, your older dog probably can teach your pup a few real important things. I would take them together, and then hunt them separately if you get frustrated, so you can teach her the correct way to do some things that she is missing. I think that the most important thing is for you to get...

Re: Thoughts on Kansas and SD in December
Sorry, Coach, I just don't hate pheasants enough to go through that. I agree most of the time. Sometimes you just have to play with the cards you are dealt. I had a crew here from out of state.........so we made the best of it. Tried to stay out of the wind if possible, only did shorter walks and j...

I live in NoDak and yes the weather can change fast. South Dakota does have more birds.....but land access in North Dakota is much better. Deer rifle season in ND is done Nov 22nd. Muzzle Loader and Bow is still open later. Not 100% sure on SD Deer season. For me personally once everything freezes u...

Went through a similar situation with my now 7 month old. I cannot give any advice other than the very best thing I did with my pup is join a club.
I joined the local NAVHDA club and have not only learned a ton, but gained a ton of mentors in the process. Well worth the money paid and miles driven!!

Re: Question about first season with a GSP
Beautiful dog and great story. Sound like you both are doing great. I'm certainly no expert, but I believe the best situation would be to hunt Greta alone as much as possible during her first season. Not a lot of other dogs or other hunters to complicate the learning. Just you and her and she will ...

Question about first season with a GSP
I have some questions about hunting my 7 month old GSP. A little back history. Picked up a GSP puppy (Greta) at 8 weeks old this spring. https://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/Family/2015-04-26-Greta-Comes-Home/i-MvKxxZT/0/L/_DSC1611-L.jpg Spent a little time with the local (100 miles away) NAVHDA club...

Re: Crate Training
The vet did notice the extra skin around the vulva and mentioned that might have been the cause of the original UTI.
4 hours seems to be the number.
She was crated last night at 10pm. Woke up to her whining at 2am. She has peed in the crate, but not a significant amount. Same story at 6am.

Re: Crate Training
first off I have a few questions how large is the crate she is sleeping in/ bed? does she have constant access to water? how long ago has the UTI cleared? The pup is young, and mixed with the UTI I think progress may take a little while as frustrating as getting up every night may be. I'd be a litt...

Crate Training
I picked up a great GSP from a local breeder and am having some issues. We got her at 8 weeks old. puppy loud in kennel
Have a 8 week old GSP who is very loud in the kennel. She very seldom quiets down and sleeps. I did some kennel association similar to the Chad Hines/ Willow Creek Kennels video.
Any advice?
My wife is having a hard time listening to her new baby crying.
