From what I've seen in my dogs with different snakes, a snakes a snake whether it's a garter snake or copper head they react the same. I have not done snake proofing as I seen no need. I do the vaccine.

Who cares whats going on in Germany? There are plenty of PP and WPG here in the states and in other parts of the world. Plus I wouldn't expect to see any WPG in Germany anyway. Arnt they a Frenchy breed ? I bet there are not a lot of DD in France, go figure lol.

Is it hard finding land in Texas to hunt on? We are getting ready to move to TX from Florida and I am anxious to start finding some good spots. Shane Public land yes, this is a wma that is not open often for quail and there is another large one in North Texas that is open more often than this one.

Ive got a small problem that I can't find the solution to. My 15 month old pup doesn't come when called if she is off lead or no ecollar. With ecollar or check cord on there are no issues. We are working on all obedience this off season,so that should help some I hope. Any ideas? The dog is collar/...

A dogs obedience should not be determined by a shock collar or any other training tool. If the dogs obedience is dependent on whether or not it has a shock collar on or not, you need to re think your training.

Went to public land this weekend to try to get some quail. Cover was veryv thick and it made it hard to get shots off. Found three covies in the first hour and a half. The two that were shot where taken in cover that wasn't as thick. Quail numbers are are as good as we have seen in decades. Back to ...

The dog does not really know his name to retrieve, he has learned that the first word that comes out of your mouth after something falls means Fetch. It was his name and now its Take em. The dog does not really know the meaning of the command. You will have to teach the dog what the command means an...

Re: New DD pup
Here's another hint: these are very people-oriented dog's, some say "needy dogs". Don't EVER leave him alone and unattended then leave. He'll eat the house or truck. That sounds like bad separation anxiety. Not fun to deal with at all. I have not heard of that being an issue with the breed as a who...

Re: order of e collar commands
Yeah that was worded wrong. Say you teach sit, down, come. You start adding the collar but only work on come at first. If that's the only command you work on with the collar, sometimes the dog will come to you when nicked because it has associated the nick with the come command. Now you have to work...

Re: GWP and DD
so what I understand here is that the american lines are faster and smaller than the german lines? Yes gsp guys? I think that might sum it up but I know there are some that are navhda oriented as well that might not have as much run and range as the field bred gsp. The DK has more emphasis on after...

I do mine all pretty much at the time otherwise, a nick will mean come and the dog will come to you when you tell it to sit for example.

My wife is german and suggested we get a german bred DK. So I went to one of the german testing days. Big, slow, closer working. I got another shorthair. I just can't switch to a DK. You go back 4 or 5 generations and you definitely see DK'S in the navhda lines. You are also seeing FT dogs now in t...

Duck hunting I would imagine you could take a little younger than upland. I would not take a kid where I hunt upland unless it was a preserve can hunt. I get a little nervous myself so no way I would take a young child.

Ok just saw the video, coyote seemed injured, young, or something. I would like a more sharper dog that would have killed it more quickly. It happens when out in the field with dogs, some are glad their dog will help with predator control

Re: Anyone ever experienced this on a hunt? (GSP kills Coyote)
Coyote kill for food, our domestic dogs don't. They just do what they were put here for. My dogs have never been able to catch a coyote and they always run away. I have not seen the video but if it was injured and the dog killed it, am not sure what the issue is. better than letting it suffer. I try...

If you are hunting quail in Texas just running one dog will make for a very short hunt - at least effective for a very short time. I guide all season, board dogs year round for many serious hunters and train dogs. I do not know any serious and passionate quail hunter in West/South-Texas that only r...

Re: Type of duck to train with?
Never been able to find anything other than mallards. Not sure what you are training for exactly but if live ducks are needed to put down a track in the water and to chase, I would get a hen. My experience has been that the hens were a lot smarter than the drakes and used a lot more moves to try to ...

Considering how short the life span of quail are, not sure I would wait . They might be gone by the time you hunt them. Also it's been proven the numbers that hunters take have little effect on bird population.

I believe the Weimar and gsp were once registered under the same stud book. A Weimar owner posted some pics of a Weimar that looked very similar to that, a Weimar with white and liver spots.
