Re: Trust the Dog
Its funny you talk about trust your dog. I have a V and use her for bird hunting and tracking. Two years ago I shot a deer that ran off and I lost the blood trail, so I but her to work. I saw the deer ran off straight away and make a hard left, after about 60 yards I lost sight of the deer. I gave t...

Re: Hunt with or without e collar
I've gotten several response's about using the ecollar too much but I don't thinks its really the case. For example i used it twice over a 2-2 1/2 hr hunt, which both times it was because she chased a flushed bird. And she's not really sensitive to commands or the collar. I live in a neighborhood in...

Re: Hunt with or without e collar
Thanks for the advice. I never recall her unless she's getting herself into trouble. Hopefully it does work itself out. She gets a little bolder ever hunt.

I've been really working on her whoa training and holding steady until shot. Some times she holds great then sometimes she doesn't so I ha...

Re: Rookie Trainer - North Texas
I used Buck Henderson from backyard kennels in van alstyn just east of you. I sent my vizsla through the 30 day puppy training to be around birds everyday and become gun broke. To me it was worth it because of the exposure to the amount of birds. But from there I've done a lot of work with her. I re...

Re: Training a bird dog to become a shed dog?
A different collar? Do you think she would notice a difference or do I need one like a bell or something significant so she'll know the difference

Training a bird dog to become a shed dog?
I have a 1 yo vizsla and she is doing great with bird training and retrieving. She finds and hold steady until shot and retrieves, pretty much what i want out of a bird dog. Ive also been working with her on blood trails which she found her first deer this season after I shot a buck and he ran 75-80...

New guy from TX
Just joined after trying to find out more about hunting dogs and training. I live in the DFW area and will be getting my first hunting dog at the end of Feb. I've got a deposit down on a vizsla pup that should be born any day now. I've been trolling for a few days on the forum just to check it out, ...
