Re: Gus Update
I've watched dogs from the first breeding and been told these will be very similar 40-50 yd dogs. Occasionally they stretch to 100 or a little more.

Re: Gus Update
Been following this, because I am picking up a BF pup in 2 weeks to complete my team. I'm curious how the natural range of your dog is?

Re: Clothes for cold weather pheasant hunting.
A long handled brush (so you don't have to bend over) to brush the snow off your legs and boots. It will melt in the truck between walks and get cold and freeze again on the next walk getting stiff. Bibs made by columbia I have are best for this time of year. And good waterproof warm gloves that you...

Re: Wirehaired Pointing Griffon vs Pudelpointer
Go to a NAVHDA training or testing day near you. Several of WI's tests recently took place. The next two weekends MN has tests and S. WI and IL have tests this month. Watch the dogs and talk to the owners and breeders. There is variation in the lines of dogs you asked about. Get on versatile dog or ...

Re: Ptarmigan Colorado
Like any of the native grouse, the earlier you go the better IMHO. Early the birds will be spread out and still in smaller family groups. I don't know if there are willow or rock in CO. Early they will be high and move down to bushes and foraging areas as fall progresses. Later if you find them ther...

Re: Woodcock habits and habitat
As a person who grew up hunting woodcock and grouse literally out my front door, their habits have changed to my observation as well. I too, one state north of Neil, have found the woodcock nesting in what I had previously been told was too far south. In 2012 , a dry year, I found 3 recently hatched...

Re: Leaving for Kansas tomorrow
Just got back from SC and SE KS. The walk in was disappointing to say the least. No quail on public, but a tresspass fee day hunt produced four covey's. I saw alot of other hunters out with the nice weather, but have done better than KS in surrounding states this year. Two trips to ks did not sell m...
Re: Woodcock
Had 7 pointed and bumped some more in a couple hours this weekend, first flight was in.
Re: Woodcock
Put up seven with 4 good points tonight in an hour and a half. Killed two with poor shooting. The flights are starting with the recent cold. Dog was still tired after a marathon of 6 hours walking yesterday for 2 coveys. Alot more action than the local quail hunting. next 10 days should be good. I d...
Re: Woodcock
Jumped one trout fishing this wknd, got the dog later and put up same bird that flew back across river or another one that was with him. Probably local birds have seen them here before. No shooting in the park. i did take the dog lower for an hour jaunt and no luck with the gun.
