Re: Post Flush Flagging

Ray, appreciate the advice. I worked pretty hard with him this weekend, didn’t get a single point (on purpose) as I was popping the birds early to keep him honest. But I did get him standing tall for me on stop to flush a couple of times which is definite progress! It’s sometimes hard working these ...

Re: Post Flush Flagging

Thanks, Birddogger--I agree with you on the judging. That being said, I see it as one of those "all things being equal type deals" two dogs are identical but one stays still as a statue after the flush. However, I'm definitely still very new to field trials and learning as go! What you're saying mak...

Post Flush Flagging

Any advice on this would be appreciated. I have a pointer, 2 years old, looks great on point, almost broke, 12 o'clock tail. However, after the bird flushes he starts flagging. Won't move his feet or move to chase the bird (99% of the time) but the bird goes up in the air and his tail gets going. It...

Re: Garmin Alpha Questions

Thanks. I'll try that next time I'm out and see if it fixes the problem!

Garmin Alpha Questions

So, I recently purchased a Garmin Alpha and love it so far, but there's one thing that I'm having a hard time figuring out. I have about an hour's drive to where I train my dog. When I get out there, I hit the "start a new hunt" button and off we go. Turn the handheld and collar off at the end of th...

Re: Planted Birds

you could plant a bird and have the launcher 20 yards or so past the planted bird that way the dog points the planted bird insted of launcher if your dog is holding point what are you trying to do with the dog i use the launcher to make sure dog will not move after point if he does then the bird fl...

Re: Pointing remote bird launchers

I learned that about the marker flag real quick. That picture was taken the first time I had him on birds which were in tip over cages. The very next week when I had him on birds for only the second time he went straight for the flagging tape...I stopped using it after that. Clearly I'd underestimat...

Re: Pointing remote bird launchers

This is all great advice and gives me a lot to work with, thanks! Ignoring him if he goes back to the launcher and working on heeling him out of there was the route that I was planning on going--I think these dogs are smarter than I give them credit for, I'm sure he'd figure out there was no bird in...

Pointing remote bird launchers

I got my English Pointer as a rescue when he was about 1. He's 3 now and due to living conditions has only recently been given his first introduction to birds. I'm pretty pleased with the way he's turning out and, just to give the full picture, I intend on hunting over him and entering him in AKC Hu...

Garmin Astro 320/DC 50 Bundle

Just as an FYI, I received the Cabelas pre Black Friday deals flyer in the mail today. On November 17 only the Garmin 320 is on sale for 450 down from 600. Seems like a pretty good deal if you're in the market for one.

Greetings from S. Florida

Hello everyone! My name is Ed and I currently live in South Florida (Fort Lauderdale area). I'm originally from England and grew up chasing pheasants back home, but obviously not so many of them down here so slowly getting into duck hunting. I've been in the US for about 9 years now, 4 years in Sout...
