Re: how is that deadbirds sometimes seem invisible
I had a quail last year that we shot and it landed on a road next to some heavy cover. My pup has a great nose and retrieves well. I watched her run within a couple feet of it at least twice and I finally just picked it up....completely baffled. The air wash theory makes some sense to me but she poi...

Re: Locating dogs in thick cover
Sounds like I should try the easy stuff first with a bell and move to a collar then the Astro if I am still having trouble. Which Astro are you all running? I see a 320, 430 and 900 models. May need to get that on my Christmas wish list!

Locating dogs in thick cover
I just got back from a pheasant hunt where we covered some really tall switchgrass cover. I hunt with Brittanies (smaller stature dogs) and once they were about 20 yards away I couldn't see them any more. It leaves me wondering where they are and if they are on point frequently. Most of my hunting i...

Re: Dog ear small cut
We had a cut just like that on my dog about 6 months ago. Tried the duct tape and took it off about 10 days later. The first time she shook her head it was bleeding again. We had her in the vet getting her OA tested and they sutured her up while they were in there. The glue sounds like a good next s...

Re: Invisible Fence
We tried a buried wire fence but my pup would get a run at it and go right through it. Switched to a wireless fence that throws an FM signal in a radius. If the collar does not sense the signal she gets a vibration or shock depending on how you set it up. Prevents them from running through it and se...

Re: Should I quit using pigeons?
I have pigeons in a coop for a couple weeks at a time before letting them out and they fly well every time unless they are young birds. I have heard other guys say their pigeons dont fly as good if not allowed to fly for a few days. Pigeons do let you control situations you are trying to train and y...

Re: Need Help Setting Up Pigeon Coop
I am no pigeon whisperer but started a coop a couple years ago so will try to give you some things I have done. In our area we have poultry swaps you can buy pigeons at or you can catch them under bridges or in barns at night. Try to get some that are about a month old. They will not have been flyin...

Re: Re-Homing Pigeons
I bet it was a pretty bad ride when the old one rolled but yes the old feeders are in the new coop and they did use bobs in the old coop. We have a big storm coming in today so I put the bobs down and put a little food on the platform and lots inside where they could see it and hopefully they will c...

Re-Homing Pigeons
So last Friday we had a storm with 80 MPH winds that rolled my pigeon coop. Most of the adults made it out ok and have found a new home on the barn nearby. I was lucky enough to find a coop that over the weekend and have put it back in the same spot. It has a nice landing platform with a door in wit...

Re: First Heat Cycle
On a similar subject, I have a brittany that is a little over 15 months old and has not had a heat cycle yet. I was guessing that she would have done this several months ago. Is that correct and if so should we have any concerns?

Re: Pigeons and dogs
I have 80 acres with the coop in one corner but she can still see them flying from just about anywhere...we are in Kansas. lol Sounds like the best combination of ideas might be to keep her or the birds penned until we can get her more steady on her points then maybe it will not matter as much if th...

Pigeons and dogs
I have a pigeon coop and my 1yo brittany loves to chase them when they are out. When she was younger I thought I was building drive by letting her do it. She loves hunting them now but I am afraid I am teaching her to chase after the flush. For those who have pigeons, do you keep the dog put up when...
