Re: Breeding question need help
I not saying crossbreds are better. But If the OP wants to breed a crossbred litter it is not going to hurt anything in the long run and they will likely get some bird dogs if the parents are bird dogs. So why not. how did they get the tall big running Brittanys. What put the Run and temperment in ...

From what I have seen a pretty good number of dogs in pounds are registered breeds. This is a owner problem If you are looking for a dog to be a family hunting dog a Gsp and GWP might be just you need. I would not do it but, I would like to see the results. This is an interesting thread which has several different threads running through it. Is being gun-shy or gun-nervous genetic ?..... I think probably yes based on the fact that I have seen more dogs of non-gun dog breeds show fear or nervousness in the presence of "bangs" than among dogs purpose br...

Re: Partially Gun Shy
GH, I agree that usually there is a personality trait of shyness or some say softness that shows in every dog I have seen that was really gunshy. But I am not sure you would call that genetic unless it showed itself in the whole litter or was evident in one of the parents.

Do you mess up a bloodline and pedigree to breed a GSP to GWP. A guy is asking me about my pup that I have who he wamts to breed with but his female is a GWP and I have concerns. I am a little concerned by the lack of OFA info and also just what size many of their dogs are. Very few Duals listed and those lines tend to be big. I have no doubt they will hunt but I think DeSeeker has two of the very best bred litters that could be bred.

Our hunting dogs do not work like the sled dogs because they stop and take breaks. I think practically everybody thinks their dog works harder than it does. I am not being critical but there is a huge difference between constant work and running and stopping like our dogs do.
