Re: Words of Wisdom
Haven't been at it long, but I have learned a few things. If you can, take a little energy out of the dog (exercise, etc) before serious training, especially with a pup, they will be more compliant, patient, and attentive. Never train angry. If you're mad corrections may not be as effective and you ...

Tested both lowest and highest settings on myself before putting it on my dog. Not fair to submit her to a shock if I don't know exactly what that button is doing.

Re: Overexcited pup
My dog is now 9mo and I still do have to deal with the occasional goofy over-excitement. I have found that if I take some energy out of the dog (exercise/fetch/whatever) before doing a little obedience work or if I know i'll be taking the dog somewhere I find I am much more successful.

Recommended Training Books
Currently I have Water Dog, 10 Minute Retriever, and The Working Retriever. 10 Minute Retriever seems good so far, Water Dog seems old, haven't yet gotten into the third. Are there any other books folks would recommend for training both an upland and waterfowl retriever?

Howdy!
Hello GDF. I am a 26 year old male from California. I have only recently gotten into hunting within the past few years. Though I had fair exposure to shotguns at a young age and thoroughly appreciate the shotgun as one of the most versatile tools on the planet. I do a wide variety of bird hunting, a...
