FF "Hold and Drop"

I've got hold and drop solid, now when I try to get him up and moving, he wants it out of his mouth. I have to hold my hand on his mouth as we make short walks.

I guess this is just the learning process, as I had to hold my hand on his mouth at the beginning of just sitting as well.

Video from this mornings session. I think he's improving. Still gets squirmy.

If I'm correct, I don't think the smart fetch method has you use force until your done with walking hold and on to "fetch".

I'm using "Smart Fetch" and I've been working with my dog for about a week now. We usually do about 4, 10 minute sessions a day. I wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if this is normal. He is improving but at a snails pace. I've gotten him to where he will hold the roller without me holding i...

My Brittany will point rabbits but just doesn't care about them as much as birds. You can tell by looking at him on point. He is not as excited.

Brittany coat grooming

Can you ruin a coat? I had my Britt cut too short. It's growing back but it's been about a month and sparse long hair growing through the short undercoat.

Riley's First Hunt

Well not really I hunted him several times but we haven't came across a wild bird yet. Yesterday we did a preserve hunt, we had 40 quail released in a large millet field with strips cut though it. He pointed lots of birds and found the downed birds when we couldn't. He point his first pheasant that ...

How much do you feed?

My 12 month old Brittany is about 47 pounds, and is hungry all the time, I feed him 5-6 cups of TOTW puppy food a day. You can easily see his ribs, so I asked the vet they said it's not worms since I have him on Trifexis. They recommended moving him to adult food. Not sure if that will make any diff...

Skin Issue on Dogs Ear

Thank for the info, I had lab that had demodetic mange as a pup, but he started showing signs at 4 months. My Brit is right at a year old, so I wasn't sure if it would show up first at this age.

Skin Issue on Dogs Ear

I noticed today that my Brittany's was missing a little hair in one spot near the front edge of the left ear and there is dry flakey skin, possibly a little scabby too. I figured I'd just watch it to see if it worsens but wanted to get your alls opinion as well. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1417893874.389...

E-collar question?

In conjunction with my other post regarding bird training, I've been working on e collar conditioning as some of you have stated I needed to do to keep some control over him the first season. My question is, should the e collar only be used for hunting situation obedience ie.... Here and stand? Or c...

There is really no whoa in the book until the end and he states he teaches it if the clients wants him to. His method the bird teaches the dog to be steady. He learns if he moves off point the birds is gone and there is no chance of him getting it.

How Often Should I Shoot a Quail or Pigeon

My Britt is about 9 months old and is working on shotgun conditioning before this up coming season. Most of the time when the bird hits the air and the dog gives chase I shoot in the air when he's out about 20-30 yards. So far I've shot 2 quail and 1 pigeon for him. How often should I be training hi...

Just got the quail house built, and plan on picking up 20 or so quail tomorrow that are about 10 weeks old. What should I feed them?

Just need a coat of paint as soon as the weather dries out.

Hello Everyone!

I'm new to bird dogs and bird hunting in general. I have a 16 week old Brittany that I've been working with since I got him at 8 weeks. I have pigeons and plenty of ground to work with him. He is smart, and I'm just wanting to make sure I'm not doing something that might set formal training back. I'...
