Re: Breeders - Do you sell your pups to non-hunters?
Guess I will throw my 2 cents in here for fun... I have found this topic interesting. One's perception of a good or bad owner/situation can differ so widely, yet fall in similar lines. We all want what's best for our dogs, but is there really a right and wrong way of going about doing things? What I...

Also, gotta throw in the La Palina El Diaro, Ashton VSG, and Tatuaje. I like to mix it up. Nice bourbon like Noah's Mill or Jefferson Estate. Haven't tr...

Re: Range question
There is no wrong range. The bigger you let your dog run the more likely the dog will find an additional bird, however at some point your no longer handling the dog. A dog can't hear a whistle or command when they are a mile out. I think some folks just like to see their dog go on point and hold fo...

Enjoying reading your guys responses. I think you guys are right when you say that it depends on the terrain. In Kentucky there isn't a lot of open hunting areas. Range question
I'm a novice, but I think I know the answer to this question. Just want to hear what everyone else has to say. I've never hunted with a dog that hunted more than a hundred yards out. So, I'm curious as to what are the advantages of a dog hunting out 200-400 yards out?

I love snow. Mostly because where I live there usually isn't enough of it to cover much of anything and doesn't stay long enough to enjoy. One of my favorite hunts was when it was snowing. Whoever trains the dog is who the dog will worship. Doesn't matter what breed you get, if YOU train it, it will be YOUR dog no matter how much the other family members play with it. This is doubly true when it's a hunting dog. In hunting dogs, I feel the best family pet and usable dog is a lab. Thi...

Gooseman I understand. I'm not sure if dogs follow the same rules as horse, which is where I have the experience with crypt orchids. I would say that a bird dog who is used for birds is gonna gravitate to the bird hunter. Try getting your daughter involved with the hunting and training process. They will associate them with a good time. Other than that, it's purely luck of the draw which person they gravitate towards, especially ...

Can only speak from my horse experience, so I don't know if it translates, but krypt orchids tend not to think very well. Figured there would be about 2 pages worth of replies by now. I'm pro gun as well. Nobody is solving a problem by banning guns. The likelihood of guns being banned is very slim, might get rid of hand guns like the UK (don't really know what the laws are), but in my life time they will still be around.

Dogs don't have the same mental makeup or psychology as humans, they adjust to changes pretty smoothly. You'll find the reverse situation to be fine, too.
