Rattlesnake Vaccine???
Got a lot of rattlesnakes in Southern California and although my dog has been avoidance trained I was wondering if anyone doubles up with the vaccine and if there are any side affects/negatives to giving it to your dog?
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

GSP Neurotic after Neuter
My 16 month old GSP was neutered almost 4 weeks ago and this past week he has become neurotic... Pacing back and forth and whining along with separation anxiety which he did not have before. He gets at least an hour of vigorous exercise such as running, fetching bumpers and playing with dogs at the ...

Re: Playing Keep Away?
How old is the dog? If all you are ever doing is taking away stuff from the dog which as a puppy may include things they shouldn't have you really should reward them for coming to you and allow them to hold onto what they have for a little bit then replace with something they can have if it is some...

My GSP likes to pick up random things he finds on the ground and chew on them. I try to discourage him from doing this by sternly say ahh!! or something of that sort which he knows means stop what you are doing and for the most part listens very well. Every once and a while he will get something in ...

I know it is ridiculous to assume that the exact problem will be diagnosed on a forum board, but I thought I would see if anyone has had anything similar happen to their dog before I drop money at the vet. I have one year old GSP and about a week ago we were at a dog park and he's was playing with a...

I have a one year old GSP and currently feed him 2 cups of food twice a day totaling 4 cups daily. He is so food driven that he cannot focus on anything throughout the days except where to find more food. He also will drink a half gallon of water in one sitting if I left him to it. It is making it r...

Re: Crazy Dog
6 weeks? Not a great start but that is of little diff at this stage. A very good sense of humor is pretty much a requirement for owning a GSP. Keep your cool b/c your dog knows how to read you like you can not even fathom and whatever you are feeling at any given time will be picked up on and felt ...

Crate him in the truck at work..... Crate him at home, crate him when you feel like it, add a bark collar if he gets loud. All should pass . Give him a bone in his crate if he is calm and you feel like it. He's not a one year old child.... He's a dog and should be treated like one. Just my .02 I cr...

I have a 1 year old GSP(still a puppy I know) he has an awesome prey drive, has been professionally started, hunts well and understands all the commands associated with finding, pointing and retrieving birds. I have no experience with Brittany's, but do have a 1 year old GSP currently and a 3 year old daughter... The dog knows that she is off limits but I would not leave both of them unsupervised in another room not because he is mean, but because he is large, goofy and excites really easy. From what I c...

Re: Pinch (prong) collar, choke chain, or....??
Check the Higgins video. Gentle but effective. No clue why it gets their attention when a choke chain doesn't but it works for me. Mine would pull and gag all at the same time. Tried the Higgins method. In 30 seconds we had a loose lead and looking at me to see where I was going. I use this lead as...

My dog went to a trainer as well and about 1.5 months into his training he shut down... The trainer contacted me and worked with me to get him fired up again. It took several weeks of keeping everything fun and birdy, but he came back around and now his prey drive is full throttle, probably the high...

Re: How do you hunt doves?
Here in Southern California we stand at the edges of freshly cut fields with about a thousand other hunters and wait for them to fly at us... In all seriousness we hunt the early morning and late afternoon when they are out and about before it gets to hot, then they rest in trees/brush. It really co...

Steadiness at home
This might be a newbie question but I see a lot of talk about steadiness in the field, but rarely see talk but steadiness at home. I realize that these are two different in nature but how do you promote a calm steady dog at the house that transfers over to the field. I guess what I am looking for he...

My GSP is nine months old and I can't seem to break him of jumping at the back door of our house when he is outside and we are inside. Re: How to make pup stop jumping...
This happened with my puppy... I would catch both of his feet when he would jump up on me and lift them as high as I could go without hurting him just enough until it was really uncomfortable and then let go. He learned not to jump on me or anyone in one evening using this method.

I have a 8 month old GSP and until recently he would run all around the field during our training sessions. He would explore every corner, bush, etc and come back when called. Prey drive question
At what point should I be concerned that my GSP doesn't seem to be interested in game? He's is 14 weeks old and he points on leaves and random debris blowing in the wind, but when I take him near any birds he doesn't notice them until he's right on top of them and then only shows minimal interest. A...
