Thanks, everyone, for your kind words and condolences. Yes, Miranda was an exceptional dog and her passing will leave a big empty space in our lives and home for a long time. There is a new GSP out on the horizon for us. I suspect it will be sooner, rather than later.

Our Beloved GSP Miranda
There are folks who don’t understand all the pieces that have to come together for a dog to meet and exceed her potential. Randy Coffelt, Nancy Collins Coffelt and Keith and Robbi Jo Barnes Gulledge all had a hand in helping mold Miranda and get her off to a good start. They understand. As a bird do...

A month ago we lost our young Rottweiler, Cassie, only three months shy of 4 years old. Somehow she picked up a bacterial skin infection that she was not able to fight off. Were my opinions meaningless you would feel no need to be defensive. As for the PGA, none of the majors are called a National Championship, let alone two of them. Quite a few years ago, one of my GSP's took a violent head-over-heels tumble while chasing a rabbit in a stubble field. From my vantage point about 50 yards away, it looked pretty bad as she just lay in a heap until I got to her. She was very wobbly when she finally stood up, her left eyelid was hal...

How would you go about training for it? I think Miranda learned it on her own, because I sure didn't have anything to do with it. Did she figure it out because it worked for her once or twice and we bagged the bird?Neil wrote:If one dog can do it, others can be trained to do it.

I don't think it can be trained. I believe there are some dogs that have enough experience with certain types of birds and are wise enough to figure it out. I am pretty sure that a whole lot of people on here would find it an undesirable behavior, would not consider the dog "broke" and would break ...
