As a general rule, weims hunt closer and more methodical than most EP's and GSP's. Weims are more "needy" than most breeds and prone to separation anxiety disorder. I have been shooting the same Mossberg 500 for 20 years. I can still kill birds with it, so I can't talk myself into a new gun. Although I have been looking at a Charles Daly waterfowl gun. Price sure looks pretty good.

One of my Weims would rival most retrievers, but weather can be a limiting factor. It depends greatly on the individual dog. For him, the retrieve is a greater reward than finding a bird. My female would rather point birds all day than retrieve, but she knows if she doesn't fetch I won't release her...

I average 100-120 days a year. I start with dove and end with waterfowl with a little quail in between. Most of those days are quick hunts ( an hour or two ). It kinda helps that I just have to go out my backdoor.

Im currnetly training my first lab and their a very smart breed. we live in kansas and pheasent mainly what we hunt. a pointer or a flush dog are both good at upland but I like flushers more cause the thrill of a bird bursting out of the brush when you least expect it is great and not to bash point...

Alot of other countries accept the blues as well. Long hair and blue coats are genetic mutations, that in my opinion should not be allowed.

There are alot of good weim breeders that don't field trial. Research your breeder well and check pedigrees. Try to stay away from show lines. Are you sure they were crushed? I had a hen that liked to sit her eggs until a day or two before they hatched, then eat them. If that is the case, shoot the birds and get some fresh ones. Once they start eating eggs, they won't stop.

I use the Sergeants PreTect. It works just as well as the Advantix and Frontline, but costs much, much less. My vet told me most of the "off brands" are exactly the same as Advantix and Frontline in performance, but use different ingredients. The Sergeants PreTect doesn't seem to wash off too easy.

On my coup, I have an aviary like that and had problems catching my birds. I built a door inside that runs off a pulley system. I run the birds inside the aviary and close the door behind them. I put a door in the top of the aviary and now catching them is a snap.

My vet will not give out vaccinations with out a full exam. She charges $25 for the exam and gives the vaccinations at cost. My old vet didn't do exams unless asked and charged big bucks to do the vaccinations. In the long run my new vet is cheaper and I know my dogs are healthy.

I haven't had any problems in the past. I sometimes put quail in my pigeon coup until I get a chance to use them for training. I will keep a close eye on them now though.

Mine are 10" wide by 12" tall and made from half inch pvc. I paint all my doors purple and bobs orange to make it easier to find for them. It seems top help the birds that have only flown a few times make their way back in.

I'll post more pics as I make progress. If I follow my current plan, I will only have about $25 in it when I'm done. It has one side on hinges already and latches. I'm going to put on an aviary and tin roof and a good coat of paint.
