Re: Pigeon question?
I have raised pigeons since i was 10 and I'm 56 now and feel like I can speak to your question with some experience. All pigeons have a natural homing instinct it normally takes around 60 to 90 days for them to relocate their home coop . The exception is if they nest , as soon as they nest they wil...

Shot and choke recommendations
I admit the 11-87 is not a Browning O/U or something more extravagant, but it has served me well in the sport of hunting for a long time now. Thank you guys for the input.

Shot and choke recommendations
What do you experienced grouse/woodcock hunters recommend for a beginner to the sport for shot size and choke. Will be hunting with a Remington 11-87 in northern lower Michigan.

Anyone feeding this? I am looking to take my pup off of the Diamond naturals Puppy and put him on this as we get ready to start hunting season. Just curious about the feeding recommendations, which is a lot less than the puppy food.

Made a hunting dog last night
Now, it's time to test the launcher theory. Put a launcher out but without a bird in it and see what happens. Many (not all) dogs will point an empty launcher even if there is no bird scent, there is launcher scent and they will point it. Give it a try and see if that happens or not. If the dog doe...

Made a hunting dog last night
I have been following the Perfect Start method to train my now 8-month-old GSP. After taking him through weeks of introduction to birds, planting birds in launchers in the field, and slowly introducing him to gunfire, it all culminated last night into creating a hunting dog. He pointed a pigeon in t...

Eating baby birds
I let my GSP pup (8 months old) outside today and he immediately spotted a baby sparrow in the yard. He ran it down and got it in his mouth, and when I tried to get him to give it to me he chewed a couple times and swallowed it. Should I be worried about this for the future? Not for other baby birds...

Picked up a bag of the new stuff at TSC the other day. Still 40 lb. bag and I paid $35 for it, $3 more than the old bag and formula. Not too bad IMO. The dog seems to be doing well with it, too.

Does anyone use black and gold dog food
I fed it for a while and really liked it. The only problem was that I had to order it over the internet because there are no Kent feed dealers in my area. When it came time to order some more one time Fed Ex messed up the delivery and I ran out and had to feed something different. Decided to switch ...

First scent point for GSP pup
Luke finally gave me his first good, no great, point last night! He actually gave me three but his first one was magnificent! And I forgot to take my camera out with me, too. The first bird I planted in the launcher he busted in on, but when we got down to the second one he just froze up; head down,...

Sounds like he shoot's them all. last two??? I get down to 15 and quit shooting them but I do fly they. I don't shoot them. So I go out to the pigeon coop to take the last two pigeons out to work the dog on. Out of curiosity I pull out the nesting box one of them was in and there were two eggs. I am using the Perfect Start to train my 5-month-old GSP. Over the weekend I took a live pigeon, clipped its wings and threw it out for the pup. I am proud to say he did great! He ran it down and picked up and did not try to chomp on it. I kept him on a check cord because I don't have a retrieving corridor like George Hickox does and he just walked in to m...

The nesting boxes slide in and out so cleaning will not be chore. I also have shingles and paint to put on it next weekend. There is also a landing platform on the front, it is just folded up in the picture.

I am looking to go out to North Dakota this fall with my GSP pup. I introduced my 5-month-old GSP pup to a dead pigeon today and he loved it. Trouble is he chomped on it every time I threw it for him. Any suggestions on how to work with this?

I got my first pointing dog just before Christmas, a GSP. Took my 9-week-old pup into the field today to let him explore and give him some exposure. I took bumper with a pheasant wing zip tied to it.
