I have a couple Wonder Leads. Ronnie Smith Jr (Delmars nephew) trained my 3 year old Brittany. He and his crew have these things within reach all day during each training exercise. Usually tucked into their pants along their back. They also wear leather gloves when using them. I now have added a Pud...

Orvis just released this podcast. Made me look at bells differently. I prefer the silent hunt with a Garmin Alpha and my dog is usually too far out to benefit from a bell. But if I hunted in thick cover and he ranged closer. I'd probably like it. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/orvis-hunting-sho...

The best door out there IMO is the Gunner. Ruff Tough has the metal door option. I've narrowed it down to that for myself when I'm ready to purchase a new one. Would love to have a Gunner but price and weight are leading me towards Ruff Tough.

Yep... I too was out in that familiar country Monday. What a blast. Those pics are making me want to play hooky and get back out.
I'm going to have to stop and smell the roses and take some pics also. I'm always too into the hunt to pull out the phone. These birds like to run.

Hello Kris,
I'm from Oklahoma City. I only have one Brittany trained by Ronnie Smith Jr from Big Cabin. He's two and we are in our second season. I would love to add a pointer. May do that in a few years. I'm 50 with young ones still.
Good luck this year.

Re: Critiquing The Delmar Smith Method
Ronnie trained my dog last year and took him to Montana for wild birds last month. Their method works. He did well last season. Well behaved in the field. Hunted hard and focused. Steady to shot. It was nice to enjoy hunting without constantly correcting the dog. I'm a believer in their system.

Last season was my dogs first. He was chasing coveys very efficiently by the end. He would lock on point and by the time I got there, he would relocate. It was fun to watch. My Brittany has longer fur than most I've seen in magazines and other pics of them on point. My breeder gives free grooming, but she grooms him as a show dog.
Are most pics of Brits with them trimmed?
Does anyone else groom/shave their brittany?
